According to Dong Nai Newspaper, on the morning of August 20, Mr. Vu Hong Thanh, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, along with a working delegation from the National Assembly, the Ministry of Construction, Dong Nai Province, and relevant units, inspected the construction site of the Long Thanh International Airport project.

The delegation surveyed key items such as the first and second runways, the passenger terminal, and the headquarters of state management agencies in the port.

Through the evaluation, the working delegation acknowledged that the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), along with contractors and investors, has made tremendous efforts, resulting in noticeable progress in terms of schedule and quality at the construction site.

Reporting to the delegation at the construction site, Mr. Nguyen Tien Viet, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), said that currently, nearly 14,000 experts, engineers, and workers, along with approximately 3,000 modern equipment, are mobilized at the site, striving to basically complete the project before December 19 and put the airport into commercial operation in the first half of 2026.

Up to now, the implemented volume has achieved more than 52.57% of the contract value, with some packages even committing to shorten the schedule by 3-6 months compared to the plan. The second runway package, which started on May 30, is simultaneously deploying the foundation, drainage system, and cement concrete paving. The contractors are working 24/7 with the goal of completing it simultaneously with the passenger terminal.

For the first runway, taxiway, and aircraft parking apron, more than 2,000 personnel and 319 equipment have been mobilized. As of now, the runway construction has been basically completed, and on April 26, 2025, the signal light system was successfully tested three months ahead of schedule.

The aircraft parking apron for the passenger terminal is being expedited, with a commitment to complete it by December 19.

Regarding technical infrastructure and internal port transportation (Package 4.8), which includes the technical tunnel, viaduct, internal roads, and power supply system, more than 2,700 personnel, 576 machines, and 86 construction fronts are being deployed simultaneously. Some critical items, such as the technical tunnel, viaduct, and overall power supply, are committed to being completed ahead of schedule.

The fuel supply system (Package 4.9) involves the urgent implementation of tanks, valve pits, and underground pipelines, aiming to complete the basic construction in 2025 and then install imported special equipment and conduct trials in the first quarter of 2026.

The passenger terminal (Package 5.10), constructed by the Vietur joint venture, has mobilized more than 4,750 personnel and 1,000 machines. The concrete structure of the floors has been completed, and the central steel roof reached its height in April 2025. The rough construction has achieved over 95% completion and is expected to be basically finished in August 2025.

The roof, glass wall, electrical, and air conditioning systems (MEP) are being deployed simultaneously, aiming to complete the construction and architecture before December 19 to serve technical flights and handover for equipment installation.

Lack of construction stone

The Deputy General Director of ACV also mentioned another challenge regarding the supply of construction stone. The total project demand is approximately 4.9 million cubic meters, with 3.4 million cubic meters needed in the last six months of the year, but only 2.2 million cubic meters have been supplied so far. Therefore, ACV proposes that Dong Nai Province and other localities expedite mining permits and create favorable conditions for the exploitation and transportation of materials to ensure the project’s progress.

In addition, ACV also requested that component projects, such as site clearance and external transport infrastructure (expressways, national highways, and railways), be completed at least three months before the operation commencement to facilitate timely trial runs and synchronous connection.

At the working session, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Vu Hong Thanh emphasized that the project should not only be executed quickly and efficiently but, more importantly, must ensure quality. This will ensure that when the Long Thanh Airport is operational, it will truly become a regional-level aviation gateway.

Representing the Ministry of Construction, Deputy Minister Pham Minh Ha requested that ACV, along with the contractors and investors, expedite the construction of the items and ensure the project’s quality. The Ministry of Construction’s leadership also announced that calibration flights are expected to commence at the end of September, with technical flights scheduled for December 19.
