Volatility in liquidity contrasted at the HOSE and HNX exchanges this week (August 18-22). A clear trend emerged, with financial stocks attracting the most capital inflows.

Week of August 18-22, the VN-Index rose nearly 1% to 1,645.47, while the HNX-Index witnessed a decline, falling by nearly 3.5% to 272.48. Trading liquidity showed mixed trends across the two exchanges. On the HOSE, trading volume and value improved by 9% to nearly 2 billion units and VND 56.2 trillion, respectively. Conversely, the HNX saw a 4% decrease in average trading volume to 184 million units and a 7.5% drop in average trading value to over VND 4 trillion.

Weekly Liquidity Overview for Aug 18-22

As the market witnessed strong gains and high liquidity, securities stocks attracted positive money flows. On both exchanges, a series of securities stocks saw significant increases in trading liquidity, with TVS, DSE, DGC, and TCI leading the pack on the HOSE exchange. Notably, TVS witnessed a more than 2,005% surge in trading volume compared to the previous week.

On the HNX exchange, EVS, VIG, TVC, and IVS also experienced substantial increases in liquidity, although the growth was not as pronounced as on the HOSE, ranging from 17% to 54%.

Several bank stocks also witnessed positive money flows last week, with OCB, VIB, ACB, and NVB recording liquidity increases ranging from 60% to 100%.

On the other hand, the outflow of funds did not exhibit a clear trend across sectors. However, some sectors experienced mild outflows, including real estate, oil and gas, and export industries.

In the real estate sector, stocks such as VRC, LGL, NBB, QCG, IDJ, and IDC witnessed significant declines in liquidity. Several export-oriented stocks, including GIL, FMC, HHP, and TNG, also saw substantial decreases in trading volume. Meanwhile, in the oil and gas sector, PVB, PVS, and PVG recorded trading volume declines ranging from 14% to 26%.
