The Binh Khanh Bridge spans the Soai Rap River, connecting Hiep Phuoc commune (former Nha Be district) with Binh Khanh commune (former Can Gio district). Construction began in August 2015 with a total investment of over VND 2,800 billion.

The project experienced a long period of stagnation, causing delays in the entire Ben Luc – Long Thanh expressway. However, since late 2023, the project has been rebooted with concentrated manpower, equipment, and investment, resulting in a new look.

Designed with a modern touch, the Binh Khanh suspension bridge boasts a total length of over 2.76 km, with the main bridge spanning 763 meters across the Soai Rap River. It serves as a striking architectural highlight along the Ben Luc – Long Thanh expressway.

Featuring a two-plane suspension design, the Binh Khanh Bridge boasts H-shaped towers standing at 135 meters tall. With a clearance height of 55 meters, the bridge ensures safe passage for “super-long and super-heavy” vessels navigating the Soai Rap waterway.

According to Shimizu, the contractor, as of August 20, the Binh Khanh suspension bridge is over 97.5% complete. The project is currently in the final stages, with the main bridge deck asphalt paving, installation of guardrails, and completion of auxiliary works related to traffic safety being expedited.

Following the reboot, the contractor has mobilized maximum manpower and equipment for construction. Despite the challenges posed by the complex terrain and geology across the river, the spirit of “overcoming the sun and winning against the rain” has prevailed, gradually overcoming obstacles and bringing the project closer to completion for handover to the investor.

On-site observations reveal that the contractor is mobilizing machinery and manpower to asphalt the Binh Khanh bridge deck. It is understood that after completing the first layer of asphalt, the bridge deck will undergo height measurements. Only upon meeting technical requirements will the next layer of asphalt for the vehicle lane be implemented.

A section of the flyover connecting from Tan Tao intersection to Binh Khanh Bridge, under Package J1, has been asphalted and road markings have been completed, ready for operation.

According to the Southern Expressway Management Board (VEC), Package J1 – Binh Khanh Bridge on the Ben Luc – Long Thanh expressway is on track to meet its deadline. The contractor is currently rushing to finalize the last details to hand over the project, ensuring compliance with commitments and technical requirements.

The Ben Luc – Long Thanh expressway is 57.8 km long and passes through Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai Province. In early 2025, the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) inaugurated and put into operation nearly 30 km of the expressway in two sections: from the intersection of the Ho Chi Minh City – Trung Luong expressway to Nguyen Van Tao intersection and from Phuoc An intersection to National Highway 51.

In the near future, with the completion of the Binh Khanh Bridge (Package J1) and the Phuoc Khanh Bridge (Package J3, expected to be completed in 2026), the entire Ben Luc – Long Thanh expressway will be officially closed. This route will become a crucial inter-regional transport link connecting the Mekong Delta with the Southeast region. The Binh Khanh Bridge is also the largest component of the project, with a total investment of over VND 2,800 billion.
