This information was shared by Mr. Tran Cam Tu, the Standing Member of the Secretariat, at a conference announcing the Politburo’s decision on personnel work on August 25 in Ho Chi Minh City. Mr. Nghi replaces Mr. Tran Luu Quang, who has been assigned to be the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Secretary. The Politburo’s decision will be presented to Mr. Nghi this afternoon in Hanoi.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nghi, 49, a native of Ca Mau, holds a Doctorate in Construction Engineering. He began his career as a lecturer (June 1999) at Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture. From then until 2011, he held various positions at the university, including Head of the Postgraduate Training and International Relations Management Board, Vice Rector, and Head of the Postgraduate Training and International Relations Department.

At the 11th National Congress of the Party in January 2011, Mr. Nghi was elected as an Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee. From November 2011 to February 2014, he served as Deputy Minister of Construction.

Mr. Nghi then moved to Kien Giang province. From February 2014 to February 2020, he held the positions of Vice Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Kien Giang province for the 14th tenure.

From October 2020 to April 2021, he was a member of the Party Central Committee and returned to the Ministry of Construction as Deputy Minister. On April 8, 2021, at the 11th session of the 14th National Assembly, Mr. Nghi was approved as the Minister of Construction. On January 25, the Politburo assigned him to be the Standing Vice Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee. He held this position for exactly seven months.

The Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM), formerly known as the Central Institute for Economic Management, is an advisory body to the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, and the Secretariat. It focuses on formulating and guiding policies, strategies, and orientations for socio-economic development and institutional improvement, thereby enhancing the Party’s strategic advisory role.
