On August 22nd, the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development (HIDS) hosted a seminar on developing green transportation to connect the city center with Can Gio district.

At the seminar, Mr. Le Van Khoa, Technical Director of VinSpeed High-Speed Railway Investment and Development Joint Stock Company, shared that Vingroup is building a green ecosystem, with a particular focus on high-speed railway infrastructure.

According to VinSpeed’s research, the proposed high-speed railway line between Ho Chi Minh City and Can Gio, spanning 48.5 km, will operate at a speed of 350 km/h, reducing travel time to just 16 minutes. The frequency is expected to be one train every 20 minutes during the 2030-2050 period.

The line will feature two stations: Tan Thuan Station (the starting point) located on the median strip of Nguyen Van Linh Street, and Can Gio Station (the endpoint) situated on a 39-hectare site. Each train will comprise 8 cars, accommodating 600-800 passengers.

Emphasizing the investment model, Mr. Khoa stated that VinSpeed, as part of the Vingroup ecosystem, will be the direct investor. The company aims to utilize private investment without relying on government funds to expedite the process and reduce procedural complexities. Notably, the Can Gio railway bridge will be constructed independently of the existing Can Gio bridge project, designed as a cable-stayed bridge meeting railway standards and ensuring clearance height.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, CEO of VinSpeed, added that the project is expected to commence in November 2025 and be completed within 30 months.

As Vietnam’s first high-speed railway line invested by the private sector, it is anticipated to become a new symbol of Ho Chi Minh City, offering a unique 350 km/h travel experience to both locals and tourists.

Mr. Tuan acknowledged the challenges ahead, especially in constructing the bridge over the Soai Rap River. However, VinSpeed is committed to thorough research and careful execution to ensure safe construction while minimizing any potential impact on the Can Gio biosphere reserve.
