Hanoi’s two metro lines recorded a record number of passengers on the second joint rehearsal day for the National Day parade on September 2nd.

On the peak days of serving the people participating in the joint rehearsals, parades, and marches to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, Hanoi Metropolitan Railway One-Member Limited Company (Hanoi Metro) recorded a surge in passenger numbers.

On August 24th, during the second rehearsal, from 5:30 am to midnight, the Hanoi metro system safely transported nearly 200,000 passengers. Of this, the Cat Linh-Ha Dong line served over 146,000 passengers, setting a new record since its operation. The Nhon-Hanoi Station line also carried more than 50,000 passengers.

Compared to the first rehearsal on August 21st, the number of passengers increased significantly. The Cat Linh-Ha Dong line saw an increase of over 36,000 passengers, equivalent to 32.8%. The Nhon-Hanoi Station line witnessed an increase of over 20,000 passengers, a 66.9% surge.

Hanoi Metro leadership attributed these results to the collective efforts of its staff and the trust placed in this modern and environmentally friendly mode of transportation by the people and tourists.

To meet the increased demand, the company proactively increased train frequency, extended operating hours, and deployed staff to support crowd management at key stations to ensure safety and order.

Hanoi Metro also advised passengers to purchase round-trip tickets in advance to save time and avoid long queues. Passengers are requested to follow the instructions of station staff, maintain order when buying tickets, boarding, and on the platforms, and refrain from pushing or shoving.

Additionally, passengers are encouraged to use the restrooms at the stations immediately after disembarking, as the number of public restrooms in the surrounding areas is limited. The Nhon-Hanoi Station line has restrooms within the stations and in the nearby areas, and at Cau Giay Station, passengers can use the facilities of the University of Transport.

Due to the nature of the operation, passengers cannot return to the station area after passing through the ticket gates. Therefore, Hanoi Metro recommends that people actively follow their official Fanpage to stay updated on station congestion levels and choose the best time to travel, especially during peak hours before and after the rehearsals and parades.

The record of transporting nearly 200,000 passengers in a single day underscores the metro’s growing role as the primary public transport system in the capital. It also serves as a crucial test of the system’s ability to operate safely and efficiently during events with exceptionally high passenger volumes.
