CMA CGM representatives expressed their interest in learning more about the planning and development strategies for the city’s port system, especially key projects such as Thu Duc Port, Long Binh Port, and the two major ports of Cai Mep – Thi Vai and Can Gio.
The group is also keen on obtaining updates regarding construction progress, land clearance, legal procedures, and administrative reforms—key factors that facilitate their investment plans.
In response, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction shared insights into the city’s port development plan through 2030, with a vision towards 2050. The department will adjust the overall planning after the merger to ensure a rational distribution of functions for each port, aiming to form a unified and synchronized port cluster that avoids infrastructure redundancy and aligns with long-term development strategies.
Additionally, the Department of Construction proposed solutions to support businesses involved in the maritime transport supply chain, promoting exports and transshipment. The city aims to complete the general planning of port development by 2025 and attract investment in key projects such as the Can Gio International Transshipment Port and Cai Mep – Thi Vai Port.
Speaking at the working session, Vice Chairman Nguyen Van Tho affirmed that the presence and investment of CMA CGM, a leading global maritime and logistics conglomerate, have contributed to promoting trade between Ho Chi Minh City and France, strengthening the Vietnam-France Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tho noted that two-way trade between Ho Chi Minh City (before the expansion) and France reached nearly USD 1 billion in 2024. France currently ranks 17th out of 129 countries and territories investing in the city. CMA CGM has been making significant contributions to the city’s economic development, particularly in the fields of logistics and maritime transport.
The city’s leadership highly appreciates CMA CGM’s commitment to sustainable development. These orientations align with Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam’s priorities in the green transition and clean energy development strategies.
He emphasized the city’s focus on administrative reforms to create the most favorable investment environment for businesses, especially in the development of modern port infrastructure, logistics, and multimodal transport.
Moving forward, Ho Chi Minh City will focus on building an open port system, accelerating customs clearance procedure reforms, and exploring the establishment of a free trade area to enhance investment attractiveness. The city aims to become an international logistics hub and a key maritime gateway in the region.
The Vice Chairman also pledged the city’s commitment to accompanying businesses, continuously improving the investment environment, and addressing challenges. He instructed the Department of Construction, the Department of Finance, and relevant units to proactively connect, share information, and support CMA CGM and other investors in exploring cooperation opportunities and implementing projects in Ho Chi Minh City.
