The Binh Khanh Bridge is a key project of the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway. With a total investment of over VND 2,800 billion from Japanese ODA and domestic counter-capital, the bridge is expected to open to traffic in the next few days.

Spanning almost 2,800 meters in length, the bridge features a main span of over 760 meters and utilizes 136 suspension cables. With a width of nearly 22 meters, the bridge accommodates six lanes of traffic. Binh Khanh Bridge crosses the Soai Rap River, connecting Nha Be and Can Gio districts in the former Ho Chi Minh City. It serves as a vital link in the North-South Expressway in the East, helping to reduce congestion on National Highway 1 and the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Day Expressway.

Notably, the bridge boasts a wide navigation channel of 242 meters and a height of 55 meters, making it the tallest in Vietnam. This allows for the safe passage of large cargo ships.

Furthermore, the bridge’s foundation was constructed using large-diameter pile drilling technology, with piles measuring up to 2 meters in diameter and penetrating deep into the soft clay soil to ensure structural stability. This technically demanding process required specialized equipment from Japan.

The Binh Khanh Bridge, together with the upcoming intersection between the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway and the Rung Sac Road, is expected to commence construction next year. This combination will significantly reduce travel time from Ho Chi Minh City’s center to Can Gio, enhancing trade, tourism, and urban development along the coastal region.

An excellent example of the benefits of improved connectivity is the Vinhomes Green Paradise project by Vingroup, located approximately 35 kilometers from the bridge. With a nearly 2,900-hectare scale and an investment of over $9 billion, this project will directly benefit from convenient infrastructure, boosting its tourism and real estate potential. Pictured here is an artistic rendering of the development.

After more than a decade of construction, the bridge achieved a major milestone in June 2025 with the completion of its main span. It is now in the final stages of development, including asphalt paving, installation of guardrails, lighting, and traffic safety systems.

On the bridge deck, auxiliary works such as expansion joints and drainage systems are being expedited.

The connecting road towards the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway is being fast-tracked to meet the deadline.

On the opposite side, most of the road surface has been asphalted, and lane markings clearly delineate the path. In the distance is the Phuoc Khanh Bridge, spanning over 3 kilometers and almost 22 meters wide, with a total investment of approximately VND 3,500 billion. This project is also being accelerated.

Running parallel to the Binh Khanh Bridge, the Phuoc Khanh Bridge is a crucial link connecting Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Nai and the Southeast region. However, this project currently presents a bottleneck for the entire route.

Upon the completion of the Phuoc Khanh Bridge, both bridges will become the country’s tallest cable-stayed bridges with the highest clearance, jointly completing the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway in 2026.
