According to the Securities Times, Foxconn, Apple’s largest manufacturing partner, is ramping up recruitment at its factories in China in preparation for the launch of the iPhone 17 in September. Foxconn is racing to attract talent for the peak production period, offering increased wages and substantial bonuses.

At the Zhengzhou factory, dubbed the “iPhone City” of the world, a recent recruitment notice offered double the bonus compared to the previous month. Specifically, workers who complete three months of employment will receive a bonus of up to 8,000 CNY (approximately 2.11 million VND).

Additionally, hourly wages have been consistently adjusted upwards, increasing from 23.5 CNY in early July to 28 CNY per hour (approximately 740,000 VND). In Shenzhen, the iPhone assembly line enjoys a preferential hourly wage of 26 CNY, significantly higher than other accessory production lines.

Foxconn’s bold move is believed to be a strategy to avoid a repeat of the supply disaster in late 2022. During that time, thousands of workers at the Zhengzhou factory fled due to COVID-19 lockdown concerns, causing significant disruptions to Apple’s global operations. To stabilize the situation, Foxconn had to offer record-high bonuses of 10,000 CNY.

This incident prompted Apple to accelerate its plans to diversify its supply chain and reduce its reliance on China.

The results of this shift are becoming increasingly evident. According to Bloomberg, for the first time in history, all four iPhone 17 models, including the premium Pro versions, are being assembled at factories in India.

The statistics tell a remarkable story of reversal. In April, iPhone exports from India to the US surged by 76%, while exports from China to the US plummeted by 76%.

This move becomes even more critical amidst the backdrop of the US threatening to impose tariffs of up to 145% on goods imported from China, further pressuring Apple to rebalance its global manufacturing strategy.
