The August issue of the Industrial Property Bulletin, published by the Vietnam Intellectual Property Office, featured an entirely new scooter model from Sanyang Motor (SYM) in Volume 2, Issue 449, Part A. Based on the released images, this could be the Fiddle DX 158 scooter.
The standout feature of the SYM Fiddle DX 158 is its unique exterior design—a blend of classic and modern styles, reminiscent of Vespa. Its European-inspired design seamlessly combines square and rounded elements.
The handlebars feature classically styled headlights, while the daytime running lights are designed to resemble violin strings, created with LED strips running vertically and harmonizing with the taillights.
Beyond its classic design, the scooter boasts modern and practical features, including full LED lighting, dual rear shocks, front and rear disc brakes with ABS and traction control.
The Fiddle DX 158 also features a modern LCD instrument cluster, a spacious under-seat storage compartment accommodating two 3/4 helmets, and two USB charging ports with different connection types. However, it still utilizes a conventional key with a shutter-style safety lock, lacking the keyless smart lock systems offered by other brands.
The left-side glove box makes way for a 7-liter fuel tank, providing quick and easy refueling. The spacious floorboard can accommodate a 20-inch suitcase, while the under-seat storage has a capacity of 24 liters, sufficient for a 3/4 helmet and essential personal items.
To enhance its competitiveness in today’s scooter market, the Fiddle DX 158 is equipped with a 158cc, 4-valve, liquid-cooled engine. This powerplant delivers 14.8 horsepower and, combined with a lightweight construction of just 124 kg, outperforms most of its rivals in the same displacement category. The scooter offers impressive fuel efficiency, consuming just 1.66 liters per 100 km.
Overall, the Fiddle DX 158 is designed with a focus on practicality, catering to the daily commuting needs of urban riders while also being ready for weekend getaways.
Currently, the SYM Fiddle DX 158 is available in Taiwan, starting at TW$ 106,500, which roughly converts to $92,000. Should SYM introduce this model to the Vietnamese market with a price range of VND 65–75 million, the Fiddle DX 158 would be a formidable contender in the premium scooter segment, appealing to urban riders who value comfort, style, and affordability. This segment is currently dominated by competitors like the Honda SH and Vespa.
