Renaming a Central Hanoi Park

The Hanoi Capital Youth Park, established in the early 2000s, has been renamed in honor of the brave and iconic Vietnamese revolutionary, Vo Thi Sau. This vibrant green space, now known as the Vo Thi Sau Park, serves as a tribute to her legacy and a beloved recreational hub for the community.

On August 29, Bach Mai Ward in Hanoi organized a ceremony to announce the decision and unveil a plaque naming Vo Thi Sau Park to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day.

According to the People’s Committee of Bach Mai Ward, the Capital Youth Park, now known as Vo Thi Sau Park, is located in a central area along Hanoi’s important Ring Road 1. Since the year 2000, the park has been envisioned to become an ideal green space and a recreational area for the people and youth of the capital.

On January 17, 2024, the Hanoi People’s Committee issued a decision to hand over the management of the Capital Youth Park to the People’s Committee of Hai Ba Trung District (former). Based on this decision, the district has taken over and renovated the park, aiming for an open, green, clean, and beautiful public space that serves the spiritual needs of the people. In November 2024, the district removed the fence separating the park from Vo Thi Sau and Thanh Nhan streets, creating a more spacious and accessible environment for the entire area.

The Capital Youth Park project, approved by the Hanoi People’s Committee in 2000, covers an area of 26.4 hectares with a total investment of over VND 280 billion. However, an inspection in 2012 by the Department of Planning and Architecture revealed several violations in the construction of various facilities, including the Queen Bee Restaurant, office buildings, tennis and mini-football courts, and the Cung Xuan basement.

In June 2025, during a clarification session organized by the Hanoi People’s Council on the management and improvement of parks and gardens, the Department of Construction provided information on addressing these violations. As of June 2025, 9 out of 14 violations have been rectified by Hai Ba Trung District (former). The handling of violations in the Capital Youth Park has reached about 60% in the 2021-2025 period. The city has assigned the district to study and adjust the detailed planning at a scale of 1/500 for the Capital Youth Park to serve as a basis for its comprehensive improvement.
