On August 28, 2025, Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PV Oil, stock code: OIL) announced that SK Energy Co., Ltd is no longer a major shareholder of the company after selling 10.8 million shares on August 22.

Prior to the transaction, the organization held over 54.1 million OIL shares, representing 5.23% of the capital. Following the sale, the number of shares decreased to 43.3 million, equivalent to 4.19% of the charter capital.

With the closing price of OIL shares on August 22 at VND 11,800/share, it is estimated that SK Energy earned approximately VND 127 billion.

SK Energy is a leading energy company in South Korea, under SK Innovation – one of the largest conglomerates in the country. The company operates in the fields of oil refining, distribution of petroleum products and renewable energy, with a global network. It has also been a strategic partner that has invested in many large enterprises in Vietnam and has consecutively divested in recent times.

On November 13, 2018, SK Energy bought more than 3.55 million OIL shares to increase its holding to 54.1 million shares and officially became the second largest shareholder of PV Oil with a ratio of 5.23% capital.

Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) is the parent company of PV Oil, owning 80.52% of the total shares.

According to the semi-annual financial report, in the first 6 months of 2025, PV Oil recorded net revenue of VND 72,696 billion, up 13% over the same period last year. However, after-tax profit only reached VND 232 billion, down about 33% compared to VND 345 billion in the first half of 2024.

In another development, OIL has just finalized the list of shareholders registered to receive a 2024 cash dividend at a rate of 2.5% (1 share will receive VND 250).

Thus, with more than 1 billion circulating shares, PV Oil is expected to spend VND 250 billion for this dividend. Petrovietnam is expected to receive more than VND 208 billion in dividends. The payment is scheduled for September 11.
