The My Thuan – Can Tho Expressway project, traversing Vinh Long and Dong Thap provinces, is set to open to traffic by the end of 2023. In October 2024, the project received approval from the Prime Minister for adjustments to its investment policy, including the addition of interchanges, local access roads, an intelligent transportation system, and a management and operation center, with a supplementary investment of nearly VND 1,000 billion. These additional items are expected to be completed by 2025.

Regarding the implementation of these supplementary works, the authorities of Vinh Long province recently worked with the Compensation, Support, Resettlement, and Site Clearance Steering Committee for the My Thuan – Can Tho Expressway project in the province. In terms of site clearance progress, the section in Tan Ngai ward has issued land retrieval notices and is proceeding with the next steps. For the part passing through My Thuan commune, land retrieval notices have not been issued yet, as the provincial People’s Committee has not assigned a unit to be in charge of the site clearance sub-project.

Representatives from relevant departments and sectors of Vinh Long province also discussed challenges and proposed solutions regarding the refund of temporary advance funds for resettlement, the finalization of site clearance cost settlement profiles, and compensation for resettlement price differentials.

Mr. Nguyen Quynh Thien, Vice Chairman of the Vinh Long Provincial People’s Committee and Head of the Steering Committee, emphasized that as a key project, site clearance must be given top priority. He called for close coordination and collaboration between departments, local authorities, and related units to promptly address difficulties and ensure the overall progress of the project.

Mr. Thien instructed the units to focus on resolving outstanding issues and strive to basically hand over a portion of the site to the contractor by the end of September 2025, allowing for a rolling construction process while site clearance continues. He also emphasized the need for heightened responsibility from individuals and units, avoiding any delays or passing of responsibilities, and requested regular reporting to enable timely guidance and ensure the project’s progress and effectiveness.
