Cần Thơ has set a target to complete 16,900 social housing units in two phases: 2021-2025 and 2026-2030. However, between 2021 and 2024, the city (prior to the merger) only managed to finish 2,252 units.
To achieve its goal, the Department of Construction has identified several key projects. Specifically, the An Phu Ecocity Social Housing Apartment Project in Cai Rang ward, developed by Can Tho An Phu JSC, has committed to completing 176 units by 2025.
The Social Housing Project in Dai Thanh ward is expected to finish 98 units in 2025. Another project, aimed at providing housing for managers and workers of the Hau River Thermoelectric Plant in Chau Thanh, is being developed by two entities and is expected to deliver around 100 units next year.

Furthermore, a project to build housing for workers in the An Nghiep Industrial Park (Soc Trang ward) has also broken ground, with a planned capacity of 1,050 units. This is the first social housing project in Soc Trang (pre-merger) and the tenth for the new expanded Can Tho city.
According to the Can Tho People’s Committee, the total target for social housing completion in the new expanded Can Tho city by 2030 is 16,900 units, with 1,397 units to be finished by 2025. However, the city is expected to achieve only about 34% of this target, falling short by 923 units.
