In an era where vehicles are not just a means of transportation but also a form of self-expression, two mini electric cars—the Bestune Pony and the Wuling Mini EV—are becoming the go-to choice for young women, especially Gen Zers in Vietnam. Both models are compact and easy to maneuver in the city, yet they differ significantly in style and features.
The Bestune Pony, recently launched in Vietnam and distributed by Carfe with its first showroom in Hanoi, stands out for its quirky, sleek design with rounded edges and trendy pastel colors like powder pink and tea green. It resembles a cute accessory rather than a conventional car, appealing to the Gen Z appetite for aesthetic experiences.
The charging port, conveniently located beneath the front logo, adds to both functionality and aesthetics. With a length of 3 meters and an ultra-lightweight build (685-715 kg), the Pony effortlessly navigates through narrow city streets. The cabin features a minimalist design with cloth upholstery, a small LCD screen, and manual air conditioning, providing all the essentials for urban commuting. Impressively, it offers a range of up to 170 km on a single charge thanks to its LFP battery, which has a capacity of 13.9 kWh—perfect for a week of school or work commutes.
On the other hand, the Wuling Mini EV is already well-known in the Vietnamese market and has been a runaway success since its launch. With a length of less than 3 meters and a turning radius of just 4.2 meters, it can easily navigate through narrow alleys and maneuver in tight spaces. The upgraded LV2 model offers two battery options, providing a range of either 120 km or 170 km. The Wuling Mini EV is currently available at promotional prices: VND 197 million for the 120 km range (9.6 kWh battery) and VND 231 million for the 170 km range (13.9 kWh battery).
The vehicle can be charged using a standard 220V grounded household power outlet, with a charging time of 6.5 to 9 hours.
In terms of pricing, dealerships often offer additional cash discounts or accessory packages, making the Mini EV even more affordable for students and budget-conscious Gen Zers. Design-wise, the Wuling sports a boxy look that is easy to customize with wraps and suits those with a dynamic and individual style. However, it may not be as visually striking as the Pony.
Where the Wuling excels is in its sales and service network. Being locally assembled, it boasts over two dozen dealerships across major cities, ensuring timely after-sales service and maintenance. The Pony, while novel and unique, is a fully imported model from China, which may limit its service availability.
Both vehicles offer a smooth and effortless driving experience, perfect for urban commutes, whether you’re dressed up or carrying shopping bags. The Pony has a more fashionable appeal, resembling a mini tech gadget that showcases one’s personality, while the Wuling, despite its simplicity, offers proven reliability and peace of mind with its market-tested design.
