In a successful crackdown on the trade of counterfeit cosmetics and medicines, the Royal Thai Police, in collaboration with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), raided two locations in Bangkok.

Led by Police Major General Siam Boonsom and other senior officers, a joint team, including officials from the FDA, apprehended the suspects. According to authorities, the suspects are a 40-year-old naturalized Thai man and a 36-year-old Chinese woman. They are accused of renting two houses in the Lat Phrao 80 Soi 11 area of Wang Thonglang district to store and distribute illegal goods.

During the search operation, the police seized a total of 8,270 items, including medicines, herbal products, cosmetics, and food items. Specifically, 4,928 products were found in the first house, and 3,342 items were discovered in the second house. All operations were conducted under the name C&C Chuntan Co., Ltd., established in August of last year.

The suspects admitted to renting the houses for 26,000 baht (approximately $740) each to run their business, which involved repackaging cosmetics, snacks, and over-the-counter medications. However, they denied knowing the illegal nature of the goods.

According to KhaoSod, the charges against them include: trading in fake medicines, unregistered drugs, unlicensed cosmetics, and herbal products, as well as selling mislabeled cosmetics without Thai labels. The suspects and the evidence have been handed over to the Wang Thonglang Police Station for further investigation.

In a related incident, a police team led by Major General Noppasilp Poonsawat raided three other houses in Bangkok rented by Chinese citizens, seizing a large number of fake and unregistered drugs worth an estimated 100 million baht ($2.8 million).

The Thai police have warned about the serious health risks posed by these illegal products if they were to reach the market.
