The Hyundai Tucson has long been the Korean brand’s strategic SUV, consistently ranking among the best-selling vehicles globally. Following a mid-life upgrade in 2025, the next generation of the Tucson is emerging with significant changes.

According to Motor1, the 2027 Tucson hybrid has a starting price of approximately $35,460, while the plug-in hybrid version starts at $41,225. Compared to the $30,200 price tag of the 2025 2.5L gasoline model, this is a notable difference. This also indirectly indicates that Hyundai is almost certain to discontinue pure gasoline engines and transition fully to electrification.
In terms of powertrain, the current Tucson hybrid utilizes a 1.6L turbocharged engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 231 horsepower and 367 Nm of torque. The plug-in hybrid version offers more power, producing 268 horsepower while maintaining the same torque. It also boasts a larger battery, providing an all-electric range of approximately 51 kilometers, which is sufficient for daily urban commutes.

Hyundai is also reportedly developing a high-performance variant named the Tucson N. This model is expected to feature the newly introduced TMED-II hybrid system seen in the Palisade, delivering over 295 horsepower. Additionally, a rear electric motor will be included to enhance traction and provide a true AWD experience, appealing to those who enjoy sporty driving dynamics.
Regarding the launch timeline, despite the fourth-generation Tucson receiving a facelift in 2025, Hyundai is predicted to introduce the next generation as soon as the latter half of the following year in South Korea. The US market may have to wait longer, with the vehicle potentially arriving as a 2027 or even a 2028 model, depending on the global distribution strategy.

Evidently, the 2027 Tucson signifies more than just an upgrade; it represents Hyundai’s bold shift away from gasoline engines and their full embrace of electrification. The introduction of the high-performance Tucson N further enhances the appeal of this SUV, attracting both everyday commuters and speed enthusiasts alike.
