With potential environmental implications at stake, all eyes are now on the investors to address these issues and ensure compliance with regulations.

The Lam Dong Province Industrial Zone Management Board has recently requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to coordinate and inspect the compliance with environmental protection laws by Trung Nguyen Steel Joint Stock Company, the investor of Phan Thiet Industrial Park Phase 2.

According to the Board, the investor of Phan Thiet Industrial Park Phase 2 has not been complying with environmental protection laws, despite frequent urging and guidance. Specifically, they have not installed an automatic and continuous wastewater monitoring station, nor have they connected and transmitted data directly to the Department of Agriculture and Environment as required.

Additionally, the central wastewater treatment plant in the industrial park has been treating wastewater beyond its permitted capacity. However, the investor of Phan Thiet Industrial Park Phase 2 has not yet upgraded the capacity of the plant or obtained the necessary environmental permits.

As a result, the Lam Dong Province Industrial Zone Management Board has requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to coordinate with relevant units to inspect the investor’s compliance with environmental protection laws and take appropriate measures.

The Phan Thiet Industrial Park is developed in two phases. Phase 1 was approved in 1998, covering an area of 68 hectares, and was the first industrial park in the former Binh Thuan Province. Today, the infrastructure is complete, and the occupancy rate has reached 100%.

Phase 2 was approved by the Binh Thuan Provincial People’s Committee in 2005, with an area of 40.7 hectares. The investor has basically completed the infrastructure, and the current occupancy rate is over 70%.
