This morning (September 2nd), at the historic Ba Dinh Square, the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, and Hanoi City solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution’s success (August 19, 1945 – August 19, 2025) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025)

General Secretary To Lam affirmed: “There is no obstacle or reason that can prevent us from striving for peace, prosperity, and the longevity and development of our nation.”

Delivering a speech at the ceremony, General Secretary To Lam emphasized that 80 years ago, at this historic Ba Dinh Square, the beloved President Ho Chi Minh solemnly read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the first People’s Democratic State in Southeast Asia, marking the beginning of an era of independence and freedom for the country.

From that historic moment, the Vietnamese nation embarked on a new journey: building a People’s Government, defending the Fatherland, and firmly leading the country towards socialism, with the goal of a “rich people, strong country, democracy, equality, and civilization.”

“At this solemn hour, we respectfully remember our ancestors and express our infinite gratitude to the great President Ho Chi Minh; we are grateful to the revolutionary forefathers, millions of compatriots, and soldiers who have sacrificed and contributed to the independence, freedom, unity, and happiness of the People.

We will forever remember the contributions of the Vietnamese heroic mothers, veterans, wounded soldiers, families of martyrs, and those who have made great contributions to the revolution; we will always be grateful for the dedication of our workers, farmers, entrepreneurs, intellectuals, artists, elders, youth, women, religious followers, ethnic groups, overseas Vietnamese, and progressive people around the world who have stood side by side, supporting the just revolutionary cause of the Vietnamese people over the past eighty years,” expressed General Secretary To Lam.

The nation of Vietnam is a crystallization of a thousand-year tradition of building and defending the country; of resilience, wisdom, compassion, and aspirations for progress. This spirit has forged the mighty power of the August Revolution; of two prolonged resistance wars against colonial and imperialist forces; of the cause of building and safeguarding the Fatherland in peacetime; and of the renewal, international integration, and national development endeavors. This strength originates from the People, belongs to the People, and is for the People; it is the strength of the great national unity under the glorious flag of the Communist Party of Vietnam, founded, led, and trained by President Ho Chi Minh.

We proudly affirm that all victories of the Vietnamese revolution are inseparable from the Party’s correct and wise leadership and the thoughts, morality, and style of Ho Chi Minh. Our Party, the vanguard of the working class, is also the vanguard of the working people and the entire Vietnamese nation, always steadfast in the goal of national independence linked with socialism; creatively applying and developing Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought to suit the country’s realities in each period; and putting the interests of the Fatherland and the People above all else. Thanks to this, our nation has overcome countless difficulties and challenges; from a colonial country, we have become an independent and unified nation, steadily advancing towards modernization and deep international integration, with our position and prestige increasingly affirmed on the world stage.

General Secretary To Lam pointed out that the tasks of safeguarding national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity; maintaining security, order, and social safety for national development; and continuously improving the lives and happiness of the people are our current mandates. Successfully accomplishing these three goals is to fulfill the wish of Uncle Ho before his passing: “My only wish is that our Party, our people, and our army will unite as one, build a peaceful, unified, independent, democratic, and prosperous Vietnam, and make worthy contributions to the revolutionary cause of the world.”

Throughout the arduous yet glorious journey of the past 80 years, we have affirmed the truth that under the glorious flag of the Party, with the light of Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, and relying on the strength of the People and the great national unity, there is no difficulty or challenge that our people cannot overcome, no noble goal that our nation cannot achieve. Therefore, there is no obstacle or reason that can prevent us from striving for peace, prosperity, and the longevity and development of our nation.

Looking towards the future, our Party sets the goal that by 2045, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, our country will become a strong and prosperous nation. This is the aspiration of our entire nation and a solemn vow before History and our People.

“I call upon the entire Party, people, and army, as well as our compatriots living abroad, to unite, join hands, and take concrete and practical actions to turn this aspiration into reality; to strive and be determined; to promote intelligence, creativity, and the spirit of Vietnam; to successfully achieve the goals and tasks set by the Party, State, and the expectations of the People,” said General Secretary To Lam, affirming: “We are resolute and persistent in safeguarding national independence, freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, every inch of our sacred land, by the comprehensive strength of the entire nation: political, economic, cultural, scientific, technological, diplomatic, and the strength of national defense and security, as well as the strength of the great national unity. We wish to be friends and trusted partners with all countries in the world. We respect international law and the Charter of the United Nations; we resolve disputes and conflicts through peaceful means. We absolutely do not compromise in the face of any plots or acts that infringe upon our independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity; we are determined to firmly protect the national interests and our people.”

General Secretary To Lam expressed that at this solemn moment, we can almost hear the echo of Uncle Ho’s 1945 Declaration of Independence, feel the beat of millions of Vietnamese hearts united in pride, and chant the oath “ready to sacrifice for national independence and freedom.” We deeply understand the value of “Independence,” “Freedom,” and “Happiness”; we cherish and strive for peace; we comprehend the sacred meaning of the words “My People” and “My Country.”
