Coffee prices have been highly volatile lately

Domestic coffee prices in Vietnam are expected to follow the downward trend, falling from the previous average of 121,300 dong/kg before the London exchange opened for trading.

Influencing Factors

Market expert Nguyen Quang Binh attributed the price drop to several factors, including supply concerns and tax-related developments. Regarding supply, there have been rains in Brazil, raising concerns about potential crop losses for the upcoming season.

On the tax front, a US court ruled that the US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose retaliatory tariffs was illegal, and he has since appealed. The tariffs remain in place until a final ruling is made. The coffee market is now hoping for a return to the previous zero-tariff regime.

Additionally, the EU’s Law on Deforestation and Forest Degradation, which will come into force at the end of 2025, is expected to significantly impact the Brazilian coffee industry, driving down Arabica prices and pulling Robusta prices down with them.
