Hanoi’s tourism sector witnessed a remarkable boost during the recent four-day National Day holiday (from August 30 to September 2, 2025), attracting approximately 2.08 million visitors, triple the number from the previous year. International visitor arrivals were estimated at over 80,000, a 35% increase compared to 2024. Notably, the city’s tourism revenue reached approximately VND 4,500 billion, an impressive 80% surge from last year.

According to Hanoi’s Department of Tourism, the high demand for leisure and sightseeing resulted in high occupancy rates in 3-5-star hotels. Many hotels even reached full occupancy on September 1st. Despite the influx of tourists, accommodation and tourism services strictly adhered to safety, fire prevention, environmental hygiene, and food safety regulations.

The average room occupancy rate in hotels and tourist apartments during the 2025 National Day holiday was estimated at 83%, a significant increase of 22.6 percentage points compared to 2024.

Hanoi hosted a plethora of large-scale cultural, artistic, and tourism promotion events during this year’s National Day celebrations. Notable highlights included the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day celebrations, the “Sắc đỏ Ba Đình” program, and the “The Hanoi Train” tourism survey by a two-story train. The exhibition, “Country’s Achievements: 80 Years of Independence, Freedom and Happiness” held at the Vietnam Exhibition Center, drew over one million visitors in just three days (August 28-31).

Hanoi’s well-known tourist attractions also witnessed a surge in visitor numbers, including Hanoi Zoo (approximately 33,000 visitors), the Temple of Literature (18,000 visitors), Ao Vua Tourist Area (over 2,000 visitors), Hoa Lo Prison Relic (over 26,000 visitors), and the Thang Long Imperial Citadel (around 33,000 visitors), among others.

Central museums also offered free admission from September 1-3, attracting both domestic and international visitors.

Additionally, city tours and historical “back to the roots” tours experienced a boom. Many travel companies had their tours fully booked one or two months in advance. According to travel companies, this year, many tourists opted for early vacations (from August 27-28) to return in time for the September 2 military parade. As a result, domestic tours accounted for 60% of the total tours during this period.

Hanoi – A Safe and Friendly Destination

Notably, Hanoi’s fireworks display at five locations (Hoan Kiem Lake, Lac Long Quan Flower Garden, Van Quan Lake, Thong Nhat Park, and My Dinh National Stadium) and the city-wide cultural and artistic performances on the evening of September 2 showcased Hanoi as a safe, friendly, and captivating destination.

The Hanoi Department of Tourism affirmed that tourist destinations in the city have strengthened their organizational capacity to welcome visitors, ensuring security, traffic safety, food hygiene, and environmental sanitation. They also promptly met the needs of tourists and prevented any negative or abnormal incidents at these destinations.
