This is the first time a locality has dedicated a special day to the semiconductor industry, reflecting its determination and aspiration to take the lead in the race for core technology sovereignty. Da Nang aims to become an international financial center and a beacon of innovation, research, and core technology development in Vietnam and the region.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Da Nang City People’s Committee, Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, shared that the city has approved a project to develop the semiconductor and artificial intelligence industries. The project aims to make Da Nang one of the top three centers in Vietnam in these fields by 2030. The project envisions the formation of a complete innovation ecosystem, focusing on high-quality human resource training, technology business development, and building a foundation for the sustainable development of the semiconductor industry.

After more than a year of implementation, the semiconductor ecosystem in Da Nang has made significant progress. From an initial eight businesses, the city has now attracted 25 enterprises specializing in design, testing, and packaging. This success is a result of a well-planned strategy encompassing four key aspects: clear policy direction, gradual infrastructure investment, comprehensive human resource training, and an attractive and transparent investment environment.

The education sector has also witnessed positive developments. As of 2024, eight universities and colleges in the city have offered semiconductor majors, with an initial intake of 600 students, expected to increase to 1,000 in 2025. The city has also conducted six training courses for over 255 lecturers and students to enhance teaching and research capabilities.

Another important milestone is the launch of the Fab-Lab project with a total investment of over VND 1,800 billion. The project aims to achieve a capacity of 10 million products per year, serving domestic and international markets. The investor, VSAP LAB, is the first Vietnamese enterprise in the semiconductor industry, founded by a team of Vietnamese experts. They are individuals with experience working in leading technology corporations worldwide, aiming to master core technologies in Vietnam.

Da Nang possesses all the necessary conditions to be a pioneer and a fast-mover in the semiconductor industry.

As a pioneer in Vietnam’s semiconductor industry, Mr. Tran Dang Hoa, Chairman of FPT IS and FPT Semiconductor, FPT Corporation, shared that in the context of global supply chain shifts, Vietnam is emerging as a new destination. Vietnam’s advantage lies in its high-quality human resources and talents contributing to the country’s semiconductor industry: Vietnamese expatriate experts returning to contribute their expertise, and international enterprises bringing technology and training to Vietnam. Da Nang currently has all the necessary conditions to be a pioneer and a fast-mover in the semiconductor industry, with a strong collaboration between the government, academia, and businesses.

Mr. Hoa shared that FPT entered the semiconductor industry over a decade ago and chose a unique path by focusing on niche markets. In the power chip segment, FPT has been producing chips that meet Japan’s stringent standards since 2022, with orders of over 70 million units from leading printer and camera manufacturers. Additionally, FPT has been developing OSAT services and has collaborated with NIC to provide training for young people to access the latest technologies, promote R&D, and innovate new chips for the market.
