There have been recent concerns and suspicions circulating on social media regarding unexpected surges in electricity bills for August, particularly in provinces such as Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh.

EVNNPC refutes these claims as attempts to exploit public sentiment, exaggerating isolated incidents, and spreading unfounded information without concrete data.
A customer from Thanh Hoa, who wishes to remain anonymous, expressed doubts about the accuracy of their electricity bill for August, which remained unchanged from July’s amount of 649,719 VND, despite frequent power outages and stormy weather.
Similarly, numerous customers from Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh have taken to social media to complain about abnormal spikes in their electricity bills. Some have even accused the power company of tampering with meter readings, as they have installed separate electricity meters in their homes for monitoring…

Recently, social media platforms have witnessed a surge in posts urging people to “sign” and “share” petitions regarding abnormal increases in residential electricity bills for August 2025. These posts are being rapidly disseminated, along with calls for online community engagement.
However, the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) refutes these claims as attempts to exploit public sentiment, exaggerating isolated incidents, and spreading unfounded information without concrete data or specific customer details. EVNNPC urges customers to be vigilant and not fall prey to such misinformation campaigns.
According to EVNNPC’s analysis, dozens of Facebook groups have featured posts (as illustrated in the image) urging people to “petition against electricity bills.” These posts are often copied and shared on personal profiles or fan pages to attract views and engagement, without providing any specific information about customers or their bills.
EVNNPC Denies Receiving Complaints About Abnormal Increases in Electricity Bills
Mr. Truong Anh Quang, Deputy Director of the Customer Care Center of the Northern Power Corporation, stated that the center did not receive any complaints from customers regarding abnormal increases in electricity bills for August. There were a few customers, mostly residential households, who inquired about higher bills compared to the previous month.
“In recent months, especially in July and August, which are typically hot, we did receive a significant number of inquiries about higher bills. However, in most cases, meter readings were found to be accurate, and bills were calculated according to regulations,” affirmed EVNNPC.
The primary reason for the increased electricity bills in August 2025 was the occurrence of two prolonged heat waves, with temperatures soaring to 38-40 degrees Celsius in many places from August 2nd to 5th. This extreme weather led to a surge in the use of air conditioners, fans, and cooling appliances by both residents and businesses, resulting in higher electricity consumption.
Additionally, August is the time when most families have children on summer vacation, further increasing electricity usage as cooling appliances are used more frequently. These factors collectively contributed to the rise in electricity consumption and, consequently, higher bills.
