As reported by our journalist, the construction of the Ho Chi Minh City – Thu Dau Mot – Chon Thanh Highway project is currently underway at the intersection with the Bac Tan Uyen – Phu Giao – Bau Bang connector road. The construction site is located on rubber plantation land managed by Phuoc Hoa Rubber Company. After receiving the handover of nearly 10 km, the contractor has mobilized hundreds of machinery and manpower to commence construction. This is the first stretch of the Ho Chi Minh City – Thu Dau Mot – Chon Thanh Highway, with a total length of over 52 km.

The total investment for this highway project exceeds VND 17,000 billion, including a construction cost of VND 8,833 billion, with the remaining amount allocated for land compensation, and other expenses. Approximately 344 hectares of land need to be reclaimed for the project, impacting 1,616 households.
The construction of this highway commenced in February, but progress has been hampered due to challenges in land clearance. In 2024, only VND 8.6 billion was disbursed, and this year, over VND 1,663 billion has been disbursed so far.
Local authorities and units attributed the delays in land clearance to the transition of power to the local government at two levels, resulting in some tasks previously handled by the district level being transferred to the communal level, causing inevitable delays.
Ho Chi Minh City’s agencies are coordinating efforts to expedite compensation, clearance, and land handover to the contractor. According to the plan, the Ho Chi Minh City – Thu Dau Mot – Chon Thanh Highway is expected to be completed by September 2027.

To ensure the project stays on schedule, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has requested that relevant authorities and units plan their daily and monthly tasks meticulously and work overtime to make up for the time lost during the transition to the two-level government structure.
Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Construction has reported to the Vietnam Road Administration on the progress of the Ho Chi Minh City – Thu Dau Mot – Chon Thanh Highway project (Ho Chi Minh City section). According to the department, there is currently a shortage of filling material in the city due to the simultaneous implementation of multiple projects.
The Ho Chi Minh Road project, Chơn Thành – Đức Hòa section, spanning Đồng Nai, Ho Chi Minh City, and Tây Ninh, with a length of 72.75 km, is divided into three construction packages with a total investment of approximately VND 2,293 billion.
The Ho Chi Minh Road is being built to technical standards equivalent to Grade III plains roads and is planned to eventually expand into a six-lane highway. Asphalt concrete paving has been almost completed along the entire route.
The 31.5-km section of the Ho Chi Minh Road passing through Ho Chi Minh City was expected to be technically opened on April 30, 2025, but due to land clearance issues, the deadline was missed. This project is part of the main route, mainly focusing on the Chơn Thành – Đức Hòa section, which resumed construction at the end of 2023 and is accelerating progress to complete by the end of 2025.
