On September 4th, the Management Board of Regional Traffic and Agricultural Specialization Projects in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province collaborated with construction, consulting, and supervision units to organize the First Cable Tensioning Ceremony for pillar T38 of the Phuoc An Bridge Project in Phu My Ward, Ho Chi Minh City.

The event was attended by Mr. Nguyen Van Tho, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, along with leaders of the investor and construction units. The project is undertaken by a joint venture between Trung Nam E&C JSC and Trung Chinh Trading and Construction Co., Ltd.

Phuoc An Bridge Project overview

The Phuoc An Bridge Project is a key traffic infrastructure project, directly connecting the Cai Mep – Thi Vai area of Ho Chi Minh City with the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway in Dong Nai province. The bridge will help reduce pressure on National Highway 51, while also improving the national logistics system and boosting economic development in the region.

With a total length of over 4.7 kilometers, the Phuoc An Bridge Project includes a 3.5-kilometer bridge, a 247-meter approach road, and a 617-meter road connecting to Phuoc An Port. In the picture: Mr. Nguyen Van Tho inspecting the project’s progress.

Design of Phuoc An Bridge

The main bridge is designed with a width of 27 meters, while the approach bridge is 23.5 meters wide, accommodating six lanes for motor vehicles and mixed traffic, with a designed speed of 70 kilometers per hour. The bridge ensures a navigation channel for 30,000DWT vessels, featuring a width of 135 meters and a clearance height of 55 meters, in line with international navigation standards.

With a total investment of VND 4,877 billion from the central and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial budgets (former), the project is scheduled for completion by 2027. In the picture: Workers performing the first cable tensioning for the bridge.

The project is divided into five main construction packages, with Package 38 (construction of the approach bridge from the beginning of the route to pillars T36 and T37, in the area of former Ba Ria-Vung Tau province) reaching about 64% progress. Package 39, which involves the construction of the main bridge from pillar T37 to axis T40 and includes the regulation of water traffic, is currently at nearly 62% of its construction value. Packages 40 and 41, located in Dong Nai province, have achieved 3.5% and 0.45% completion, respectively.

Trung Nam E&C JSC, together with Trung Chinh Trading and Construction Co., Ltd., is in charge of constructing the main suspension bridge. As of July 2025, the package has completed pile drilling, the construction of the pier and tower body, 6 out of 12 sections of pillar T37, and 14 out of 15 sections of the main tower T38.

Mr. Nguyen Van Trinh, Director of the Management Board of Regional Traffic and Agricultural Specialization Projects in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, shared that the Phuoc An Bridge is the largest Extradosed bridge in Asia, featuring a navigation clearance height of 55 meters and a span of 250 meters, allowing for the passage of 30,000-ton vessels. It also boasts the highest clearance height among bridges in Vietnam.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tho, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of the investor and construction units in the past time. The first cable tensioning ceremony marks a significant milestone in the project’s construction. This demonstrates the determination to accelerate progress while ensuring safety and quality, contributing to the early completion of the project.

According to Mr. Tho, the project is planned for completion by 2027. However, given the current progress, the bridge is expected to be technically opened to traffic by the end of 2026, allowing for its earliest possible utilization.
