Going All Out for APEC 2027

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in 2027 will be held in Vietnam, with Phu Quoc selected as the host for the APEC Summit Week 2027.

This is a unique event that will put Phu Quoc in the global spotlight, attracting investments and boosting tourism and real estate development, propelling the “pearl island” to new heights of international recognition.

With the theme “Connecting People, Building a Harmonious and Self-reliant Economy” – APEC 2027 is being meticulously prepared by Vietnam, with a determination to succeed on all fronts.

To prepare for and organize the conferences and activities of APEC 2027, on July 10, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh decided to establish the National Committee for APEC 2027 and the Committee’s operating regulations, with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son as the Chairman. The Committee comprises five sub-committees: Content; Material and Logistics; Security and Health; Propaganda and Culture; and Protocol.

In addition, Vietnam is investing in infrastructure and expediting the progress of several key projects. For instance, the project to upgrade and expand Phu Quoc International Airport is being accelerated to prepare for the event, aiming to enhance its capacity to serve larger aircraft and become one of the most modern airports in the region.

Phu Quoc International Airport’s design is inspired by a phoenix in flight, symbolizing Vietnam’s “national prestige.”

Furthermore, Rach Gia Airport has been directed to undergo upgrades and expansions to cover an area of approximately 200 hectares, with a 2.4-kilometer extended runway and a new terminal to accommodate larger aircraft. This will provide travelers with more options and convenience when traveling to Kien Giang.

In addition to air transport, An Thoi International Seaport will be upgraded to a scale of 100 hectares to accommodate the world’s largest cruise ships (such as Icon of the Seas) capable of carrying 7,000-10,000 passengers.

The APEC Conference Center construction project in Phu Quoc covers a total area of 88.5 hectares, including 57 hectares of reclaimed land, with a total investment of up to VND 64,000 billion. The project officially commenced in May 2025, aiming for completion by June 2027. This key project is part of a portfolio of 21 projects serving the event, including a 3,500-seat conference hall, a 3,000-seat press center, and other public works on approximately 28 hectares…

Phu Quoc’s multi-functional complex for APEC 2027 is expected to accommodate approximately 15,000 people.

For Vietnam, APEC cooperation is a crucial driver for market opening, investment attraction, technology transfer, and enhancement of the economy’s competitiveness.
