Grab Vietnam has issued an official statement regarding the market research reports on the taxi passenger transport market in Vietnam, published by Mordor Intelligence in Q4 2024, Q1 2025, and Q2 2025.

According to Grab’s information, the company has never discussed or provided any business information, transaction data, or market assessments to Mordor Intelligence or any third party.

“Therefore, we confirm that Grab Vietnam is not associated with and does not endorse the accuracy or content of the information presented in the aforementioned reports by Mordor Intelligence,” Grab Vietnam stated.

Grab stated that, over the past few months, they have proactively engaged directly with Mordor Intelligence to gain a deeper understanding of their data sources and survey methodology, while requesting that they “reassess and improve their research methods.”

“While we appreciate Mordor Intelligence’s openness in discussing details, we found that their published reports consistently contained notable quality issues. These issues were published intentionally, leading to significant concerns about the validity of their data sources and approaches,” Grab Vietnam clarified.

Grab pointed out that Mordor Intelligence’s reports are primarily based on assumptions and estimates of the overall transaction value (GMV) of taxi companies, from which they further assumed the GMV of the taxi passenger transport business, and then estimated the separate GMV for two-wheeler and four-wheeler services without verifiable or reliable data sources.

“These factors indicate flaws in the research scope, incomplete data, and inaccurate market size estimates in Mordor Intelligence’s reports,” the tech company stated.

Additionally, Grab believes that these reports rely on information from personnel who have left the industry. “These assumptions and estimates are based on information from some former employees of the companies, referred to as ‘experts’ by Mordor Intelligence, collected through online interviews, suggesting that the market information and data may be outdated.”

Based on these factors, Grab concluded, “We have reason to believe that Mordor Intelligence’s reports on the Vietnamese taxi passenger transport market have utilized unverifiable data sources and incomplete research methodologies, leading to misleading conclusions. This has potentially confused consumers, sent inaccurate signals to the market, and may have steered stakeholders towards inefficient business directions.”

As a result, Grab has sent an official legal letter to Mordor Intelligence, requesting the retraction of the aforementioned reports, along with a “reassessment and improvement of their methodology, substantiating their conclusions with reliable and verifiable market information and data sources.”
