The main route of the Urban Railway No. 5 starts at the intersection of Van Cao and Hoang Hoa Tham and ends at the Thach Binh Station (Hoa Lac), with a total length of approximately 39.6 km. In addition, the project includes two branches connecting to Depot No. 1 (in Son Dong and Duong Hoa communes) and Depot No. 2 (in Hoa Lac commune), with a total branch length of about 4.8 km.

The entire route comprises 20 stations, including 6 underground, 3 elevated, and 11 at-grade stations. The stations are mainly located along the Thang Long Boulevard and the Hoa Lac – Hoa Binh Highway. Notably, many stations will have direct connections to other urban railway lines such as lines 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and the Monorail M2, creating an integrated transportation network.

The design of the Urban Railway No. 5 features a mixed structure: The underground section extends from Van Cao through Lieu Giai, Nguyen Chi Thanh to Tran Duy Hung. The at-grade and elevated sections start after the National Convention Center and continue along the Thang Long Boulevard to the end point in Hoa Lac.

The project includes two main depots: Depot 1, with an area of 32 hectares, will serve line 5 and line 8 (Son Dong – Duong Xa), and will also integrate a workshop for assembling railway vehicles. Depot 2, with an area of 10.4 hectares, is located in the planned area of Hoa Lac urban area.

The Hanoi People’s Committee has assigned the Department of Planning and Architecture to inspect and confirm the drawings. The Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board will be in charge of announcing the planning and setting up boundary markers. The local authorities of the aforementioned wards and communes will be responsible for managing the land in accordance with the approved plan.
