Chairman of the Vietnam Boxing Federation goes missing in the US

There has been a recent stir in the Vietnamese boxing community regarding the disappearance of Mr. Luu Tu Bao, the Chairman of the Vietnam Boxing Federation (VBF). Mr. Bao, a dual citizen of the US and Vietnam, has been unreachable for several months after traveling to the US from Vietnam, ceasing his direct involvement in the federation’s operations.

Mr. Luu Tu Bao, a qualified candidate, was elected as the chairman of the Vietnam Boxing Federation for the second term (2023 – 2028). He also holds the position of Executive Director of Saigon Sports Club (SSC). However, after leaving for the US in February 2025 to attend his son’s funeral, he has gone missing for over six months.

On September 4, 2025, in an article published by Nguoi Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Duy Hung, Vice Chairman and General Secretary of VBF, confirmed that “Mr. Bao, despite being in the US, has been in touch with us regarding the management of boxing activities in Vietnam, including organizing tournaments such as the 2025 National Team Championship in Dak Lak in April and the 2025 National Youth Championship in Ninh Binh in July.”

Mr. Luu Tu Bao also holds prominent positions as the Chairman of the Vietnam Mixed Martial Arts Federation (HMMAF) for the first term (2022–2027) and the Executive Director of Saigon Sports Club (SSC). He is also known for his ownership and legal representation of multiple businesses in Ho Chi Minh City.

Notably, since July, two companies associated with Mr. Bao have changed their legal representatives.

Strength Skill Combatives Technologies Co., Ltd., established in November 2023 with a charter capital of VND 6 billion, specializing in trading sports equipment, was previously owned by Mr. Bao but has now been transferred to Ms. Le Thi Minh Huong (born in 1991).

Similarly, at Saigon Sports Club, where Mr. Bao used to be the owner and legal representative, Ms. Huong took over this position in July. Founded in 2012, Saigon Sports Club operates in multiple sports fields, including martial arts, fitness, swimming, basketball, and tennis. Mr. Bao also increased the company’s capital from VND 20 billion to VND 40 billion last year.

In addition to the above-mentioned companies, Mr. Bao remains the legal representative of CPD Vietnam Co., Ltd. and Care A2+ Vietnam Co., Ltd.
