Despite a plethora of leaks surrounding the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, a significant design mystery loomed until the very eve of Apple's launch event. However, a recent report has seemingly lifted the veil on this enigma, revealing a change even more audacious than anticipated.

In just a few hours, Apple will officially unveil the iPhone 17 series at its annual event, taking place at midnight on September 10 (Vietnam time). Based on a series of leaks from reliable sources, the new iPhone generation promises to bring significant upgrades, focusing on the practical experience of users rather than just performance competition.

Although a lot of information about the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max has been leaked, a big mystery about their design remains until just before Apple’s launch event. That is the design of the back of these phones.

However, a recent report seems to have lifted the veil on this secret, revealing a change that is even more bold than expected.

Previously, there were two contrasting rumors about the back design of the iPhone 17 Pro duo. Both agreed that the camera bump would be expanded into a camera band running horizontally across the top of the device.

The difference lies in the rest of the back design:

Safe option: The entire back remains glass, continuing the design of the iPhone 16 Pro.

Bold option: A two-tone design, combining a glass camera band and a lower aluminum body, with a dedicated area for MagSafe wireless charging.

Initially, the two-tone design seemed far-fetched. But recently, reputable journalist Mark Gurman of Bloomberg spoke up, and his descriptions suggest that this bold change is about to become a reality.

“The backs of these phones look different,” Gurman wrote, “including a new camera area that spans the entire top third of the device, as well as a new cut-out area in the bottom two-thirds of the phone that serves as a wireless charging area.”

The description of “a new cut-out area” matches perfectly with the rumor of an aluminum-glass design, rather than a seamless all-glass back.

The Significance of the Change: Lighter and More Distinctive

If this information is accurate, Apple is about to bring the most notable design change to the iPhone Pro line in many years.

More importantly, shifting from titanium and glass to aluminum and less glass could significantly reduce the overall weight of each iPhone Pro model. This would likely be the biggest and most appreciated difference if this change comes to fruition.

This shift could also pave the way for a fully glass iPhone 20 in the future, as rumors have suggested.
