“A Deficit of 760,000 Cubic Meters of Stone at Long Thanh Airport: Dong Nai Proposes Three Procurement Solutions”

Long Thanh International Airport: Overcoming Construction Challenges with Innovative Solutions The Long Thanh International Airport project, a flagship infrastructure development in Vietnam, encounters a significant challenge: a shortfall of approximately 760,000 cubic meters of construction stone. To address this issue, the Dong Nai Department of Agriculture and Environment has proposed three concrete solutions to maintain the project's construction momentum.

According to Báo Đồng Nai, Mr. Trần Trọng Toàn, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Đồng Nai Province, stated that of the total amount of missing rocks, nearly 460,000 cubic meters have yet to be sourced, and the remainder, though sourced, cannot be mined due to legal procedural obstacles.

As per the Department’s data, the project required approximately 4.9 million cubic meters of various rocks in 2025. Thus far, contractors have only secured supply contracts for 3.7 million cubic meters, meeting roughly 75% of the demand. Of this, only 60% has been transported to the construction site.

The primary reason for this shortfall is attributed to some enterprises not completing the legal procedures for mining or being unable to produce rocks that meet the project’s quality and variety requirements.

To address this issue, the Đồng Nai Department of Agriculture and Environment will implement three specific measures.

Firstly, they will transfer the entire unclaimed volume of approximately 195,000 cubic meters from the mines of the Joint Stock Company for Construction and Production of Building Materials Biên Hòa (UPCoM: VLB) to the project.

Secondly, following the government’s issuance of a resolution applying special mechanisms in implementing the Law on Geology and Minerals 2024, VLB will increase the capacity of the Tân Cang 1 mine to provide an additional 300,000 cubic meters in 2025. Simultaneously, Trường Trường Phát JP Construction Trading Joint Stock Company will apply similar mechanisms at the Thiện Tân 9 mine to extract an extra 250,000 cubic meters of rocks.

The third solution is to enlist the support of the Bình Thạch Cooperative to secure approximately 69,000 cubic meters of rocks from the Thạnh Phú 3 mine.
