On September 11, the Economic Police Department of Da Nang City successfully dismantled a criminal case, arresting and detaining Nguyen Thanh Truong (DOB: 1989), residing in An Bien Ward, Hai Phong City, and Nguyen Ngoc Chau (DOB: 1987), a Da Nang local, to investigate their involvement in “Production and trading of counterfeit food products.”

Initial investigation results indicate that in 2023 and 2024, Nguyen Thanh Truong traveled from Hai Phong to Da Nang and established two companies specializing in producing and trading fake bird’s nest pudding. To conceal his illicit activities, Truong enlisted the help of Nguyen Ngoc Chau and Chau’s sister, using their names for company registration and legal representation. However, Truong was the one actually managing and operating these companies.
In early 2024, Nguyen Thanh Truong procured machinery and equipment and set up a bird’s nest pudding production facility in Dien Ban Dong Ward, Da Nang City. Instead of using authentic bird’s nest as an ingredient, Truong instructed Nguyen Ngoc Chau to research and create fake “bird’s nest fibers” that looked identical to the real thing. The entire production process, from ingredient mixing, nest bottling, labeling to packaging, was carried out by these two individuals.
From January 2024 to mid-June 2025, some batches of products were still made with genuine bird’s nest, but in very small quantities. However, from June 24, Truong boldly directed his subordinates to stop using real bird’s nest altogether, and all subsequent batches were made with counterfeit ingredients. These fake bird’s nest products were then aggressively distributed to retail stores in Da Nang, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong, and other locations, deceiving thousands of consumers.
To combat this intricate network of producing and trading fake bird’s nest pudding, the Economic Police Department assigned surveillance teams to monitor the suspects’ activities and established a specialized case to tackle their illicit operations.
On September 11, the Economic Police Department of Da Nang City summoned and announced the decisions to prosecute and detain Nguyen Thanh Truong and Nguyen Ngoc Chau for the crime of “Production and trading of counterfeit food products.” The investigation has been expanded to thoroughly unravel the entire network and bring all involved individuals to justice.
A search of the production facility of Vannest Co., Ltd. (located in Dien Duong Residential Area and Market, Dien Ban Dong Ward, Da Nang City) yielded nearly 38,000 bottles of bird’s nest products across 15 different brands.
Laboratory tests revealed that 5 out of the 15 bird’s nest brands contained no Sialic Acid (a primary nutritional component of bird’s nest), and the remaining 10 brands had only 1% of the standard Sialic Acid content.
