In a recent post on social media platform X, the account ShrimpApplePro shared intriguing insights into the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max, suggesting unprecedented changes.
According to the post, the iPhone 17 will offer either a purely eSIM option or a hybrid model with a physical SIM card slot, depending on the market. Interestingly, the battery capacity will vary between these two options. Due to the physical SIM slot taking up internal space, the models with this feature are expected to have a lower battery capacity compared to their eSIM-only counterparts.

Specifically, the iPhone 17 models with a physical SIM slot are said to feature the following battery capacities: 3,692mAh for the iPhone 17, 3,036mAh for the iPhone 17 Air, 3,988mAh for the iPhone 17 Pro, and 4,823mAh for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. On the other hand, the eSIM-only variants are expected to retain the 3,692mAh battery for the iPhone 17, while offering increased capacities for the other models: 3,149mAh for the iPhone 17 Air, 4,252mAh for the iPhone 17 Pro, and a remarkable 5,088mAh for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. This would be the first time an iPhone surpasses the 5,000mAh mark, setting a new standard for Apple’s premium lineup.
In a related development, Apple has mandated that authorized dealer staff in several European countries complete eSIM training by September 5. This suggests that the iPhone 17 could see a wider rollout of the physical SIM card slot removal policy, following the lead of the iPhone 14 in the US.
The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are also rumored to introduce an orange color option and enhance camera capabilities, including support for 8x optical zoom.
In addition to the battery upgrades, there are speculations about price adjustments. According to MacRumors, the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to be priced $100 higher than its predecessor, the iPhone 16 Pro, but will offer a higher base storage capacity of 256GB. The iPhone 17 Air is rumored to be $50 more expensive than the iPhone 16 Plus, while the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to maintain the same price points as their previous generations.
