FPT CEO: Businesses Lagging Behind Government in Digital Transformation

On the afternoon of September 15th, at the Vietnam Private Sector Economic Forum (VPSF) 2025 themed "Unlocking Potential - Shaping Vietnam's Future," Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, CEO of FPT Corporation, delivered noteworthy insights during the panel discussion titled "Science, Technology & Innovation - The Catalyst for Growth."

Businesses Lagging Behind Government Initiatives

FPT’s CEO opened with a candid observation: “Over the past year, businesses have been moving slower than the government.”

Mr. Khoa analyzed that previously, Vietnam’s digital government and transformation efforts were fragmented, lacking a unified framework. However, since Resolution 57, roles have been clearly defined: the government holds data, ministries manage platforms, and local authorities collect and benefit from data. He affirmed that businesses will undoubtedly benefit from this shift.

To illustrate, Mr. Khoa cited health forecasting. A sudden spike in flu medication purchases in a city could instantly signal a potential outbreak, triggering a cascade of related services.

Currently, with 5,585 administrative procedures and countless documents, little has changed in the digital government landscape. Yet, Mr. Khoa believes transformation is imminent.

FPT is collaborating with major corporations and ministries to ensure that by January 1, 2026, all ministries will operate entirely on their data systems, sharing information seamlessly. After completing 11 critical databases, over 100 more will follow.

Mr. Khoa emphasized, “The government is outpacing businesses, and tech companies are outpacing traditional ones.” He views this as a concern rather than a triumph.

Advice for Businesses: Embed Technology at the Core

With the government’s evolving role, highlighted by new resolutions in healthcare, education, and upcoming creative startups, Mr. Khoa questioned: How will businesses adapt in this new era?

“We often say, don’t implement resolutions into life—integrate life into resolutions,” he shared.

Many view technology as a tool, buying it only when needed. Mr. Khoa advises otherwise: “Make technology your core. Treat it as your business’s nucleus. Stop seeing it as a tool but as the essence, with a tech-first mindset.”

When technology becomes central, workforce strategies must evolve. He noted a severe talent shortage, exacerbated by AI’s rise. “The gap isn’t in expertise but in those who can work with AI.”

Businesses Must Act Before Policies Do

Mr. Khoa urged businesses to act proactively. Those leveraging policies will thrive. For others, “collaborate to build an ecosystem for Vietnamese products.” He envisions future conglomerates as large ecosystems, not all-encompassing entities.

With technology at the core, businesses achieve transparency, sustainability, and systemic management. Investors and financiers will follow. Technology drives transparency, but it must start within the business.

In closing, Mr. Khoa advised: “Tech innovators must be bold, not overthink, as technology constantly evolves. Sacrificing for your business, nation, and service ensures sustainable growth through taxation.”
