On September 17, 2025, the National Competition Commission (under the Ministry of Industry and Trade) announced that it had received Apple’s feedback regarding the color change phenomenon at the contact point between the iPad Pro (M4) and Apple Pencil Pro. The commission has also issued recommendations to consumers. The National Competition Commission has acknowledged consumer reports about this discoloration issue.

According to user feedback, during use, an unusual discoloration appears at the magnetic charging point between the two devices, resembling a slight charring mark. This condition is suspected to be related to device safety, potentially causing fire hazards or technical malfunctions.

Based on consumer reports, the National Competition Commission has requested Apple Vietnam LLC to provide relevant information and documentation. In its report to the authorities, Apple stated that the discoloration at the contact point between the iPad Pro 11-inch (M4) WiFi and Apple Pencil Pro is a cosmetic issue, likely caused by dust, moisture, or other contaminants present during charging.

The company asserts that this condition does not affect performance, functionality, or product safety. Apple confirmed that no systemic safety issues have been recorded for these devices to date.

Apple also noted that its products have been tested and certified to meet international standards for information technology equipment safety, including IEC 60950 and IEC 62368. In Vietnam, the iPad Pro 11-inch (M4) WiFi has been certified to comply with the National Technical Regulation on Safety of Telecommunication and Information Technology Equipment QCVN 132:2022/BTTTT, while the Apple Pencil Pro is not subject to this regulation.

Regarding warranty policies, Apple stated that external discoloration is not covered under warranty. However, the company maintains a one-year limited warranty for both the iPad and Apple Pencil in the Vietnamese market.

Apple’s report further emphasized that this aesthetic issue does not compromise consumer safety and does not trigger a product recall obligation under the law. Additionally, the company has published specific guidelines for users to refer to when encountering discoloration on their devices.

Based on Apple’s report and current legal provisions, the National Competition Commission advises consumers to proactively inspect their products immediately after purchase and throughout their use, paying special attention to any unusual signs on the device’s surface.

Users should document the product’s condition with photos and information to provide evidence when reporting issues to the company or authorities if needed. In case of discoloration or other device-related issues, consumers are encouraged to contact Apple’s support team directly through official channels for advice and appropriate handling.

If potential risks are identified that may affect life, health, or property, consumers should promptly notify the competent state management agencies, such as the Department of Industry and Trade, for verification and necessary measures, including product recalls if warranted.

The National Competition Commission affirmed that it will continue to monitor consumer feedback and require relevant businesses to strictly comply with legal regulations to protect the legitimate rights and interests of consumers in Vietnam.
