On September 14, the joint contractors for Package 4.6, responsible for constructing Runway 1, taxiways, and the apron at Long Thanh International Airport, are expediting the reinstallation of approach lights and runway edge lights on Runway 1. This effort aims to support the upcoming calibration flights at the airport.

Specifically, starting September 26, the Vietnam Aviation Authority will collaborate with relevant units to commence inspection and calibration flights at Long Thanh Airport. These flights, conducted over more than 10 days using a Beechcraft B300 aircraft, will take place during late-night or early-morning hours to minimize disruption to commercial operations at Tan Son Nhat Airport.
Runway 1 at Long Thanh Airport spans 4 kilometers in length and 70 meters in width, capable of accommodating the most advanced aircraft currently in operation. Package 4.6, initiated by the joint contractors in August 2023, was originally slated for completion by July 2025, with a 23-month construction timeline. However, the schedule was later adjusted, advancing the completion date to April 2025, three months ahead of the original plan.

To date, Package 4.6 has achieved over 95% completion, with Runway 1 nearly finished. The remaining work, located in areas awaiting settlement and intersecting with ongoing underground infrastructure packages at the cargo apron, will be completed in the coming period.
By late April 2025, the signal lighting system on Runway 1 had been fully installed and successfully tested, officially illuminating the runway. Subsequently, during the construction of other components of the Long Thanh Airport project, some lights were temporarily removed to facilitate the movement of construction vehicles and machinery across Runway 1. These lights are now being reinstalled by the contractors to support the upcoming calibration flights.
