The Mercedes-AMG GT XX concept, a preview of the upcoming all-electric AMG GT, has achieved an extraordinary feat: it completed a distance equivalent to the Earth’s circumference in just over 7 days on the Nardo test track in Italy, shattering 26 world records for electric vehicle endurance.

In the era of electrification, Mercedes-AMG has demonstrated its unparalleled prowess. During the 8-day test, the GT XX concept covered 40,075 km in just 7 days, 13 hours, and 24 minutes. Notably, it achieved an astonishing 5,479 km in 24 hours, nearly doubling the previous record of 2,521 km set by the XPeng P7.

This achievement was made possible by maintaining a constant speed of 299 km/h, with a team of 17 drivers, including F1 racer George Russell, taking turns behind the wheel. The test was nearly non-stop, with the car only pausing for charging.

The secret behind this triumph lies not only in its 1,300 horsepower engine but also in its revolutionary battery and charging technology. At the heart of the GT XX is an 114kWh battery pack, utilizing an 800V architecture and next-gen NCMA cylindrical cells developed by Mercedes-AMG in collaboration with its F1 division.

The most groundbreaking innovation is the direct oil cooling system for each battery cell. This technology effectively addresses the overheating issue—a common limitation in electric vehicles that often leads to reduced performance during fast charging. As a result, the GT XX can handle an ultra-fast charging rate of up to 850kW without any efficiency loss.

The outcome is staggering: the vehicle can charge enough energy for a 400 km range in just 5 minutes. This capability virtually eliminates concerns about charging time and range anxiety, the two biggest hurdles for electric vehicles today.

Mercedes-AMG confirms that the GT XX concept is very close to its future production version. This means the groundbreaking technologies that enabled the car to break records will soon become a reality, not only in high-performance models but potentially in mainstream Mercedes-Benz vehicles, ushering in a new era for electric mobility.
