Voters Urge Swift Development of Mang Den Airport

The Ministry of Construction has responded to the National Assembly delegation of Quang Ngai Province regarding voter proposals submitted after the 9th Session of the 15th National Assembly. These proposals focus on critical local transportation infrastructure.

Notably, voters have urged the expedited development of Mang Den Airport under a special mechanism. In response, the Ministry of Construction stated that it is currently adjusting the Airport System Master Plan, which includes the addition of Mang Den Airport. Once approved by the Prime Minister, the Ministry will collaborate with the Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee to establish and approve the Detailed Planning.

The Ministry emphasized that the province should proactively research and propose mechanisms to mobilize investment resources, while the Ministry will provide support throughout the implementation process.

According to preliminary studies, Mang Den Airport is expected to be located in Mang Den Commune, a renowned destination known for its cool climate and rich landscapes, often dubbed the “Second Da Lat of the Central Highlands.”

The site is approximately 73 km from Pleiku Airport, 105 km from Phu Cat Airport, and 93 km from Chu Lai Airport. The entire planned area spans about 350 hectares, situated on hilly terrain.

The project is designed to meet the 4C standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), with a capacity of approximately 1 million passengers per year by 2030, and the potential for further expansion in subsequent phases.

Mang Den Airport – A Unique “Mountain Airport,” A Global Landmark Opportunity for Vietnam

Unlike most airports in Vietnam, which are typically located in plains or coastal areas, Mang Den Airport is planned to be built entirely on mountainous terrain. Spanning approximately 350 hectares, the project is situated in Mang Den Commune, known as the “Second Da Lat of the Central Highlands” for its cool climate and majestic scenery.

This location choice offers a distinct advantage: The airport will not only serve as essential transportation infrastructure but also become an architectural and engineering symbol, showcasing Vietnam’s construction and aviation industries’ ability to conquer challenging terrain.

Globally, mountain airports are renowned for their breathtaking views and unique experiences, such as Paro Airport in Bhutan and Innsbruck Airport in Austria. If developed effectively, Mang Den could become one of the few “mountain airports” in Southeast Asia, attracting international attention.

Particularly, as Vietnam strives to promote its image as a dynamic, creative, and culturally rich nation, a one-of-a-kind project like Mang Den Airport will help Vietnam stand out on the regional aviation map.

Moreover, Mang Den Airport will not only meet the travel needs of Quang Ngai Province’s residents but also unlock opportunities for eco-tourism, resort, and adventure tourism development. International visitors will be captivated by the experience of flying to a mountainous destination, enjoying year-round cool temperatures, and exploring natural pine forests, lakes, and waterfalls.

This is the “golden key” for Mang Den to emerge as a new hotspot in Vietnam’s tourism landscape, competing on both regional and international levels.
