Ambitious Plan

At the recent Vietnam Private Economic Forum 2025, Mr. Trinh Tien Dung – Chairman of Dai Dung Group – unveiled an ambitious long-term development plan extending to 2030. During this period, Dai Dung aims to participate in at least 10 large-scale international projects across key sectors, including transportation infrastructure, renewable energy, and heavy industry.

Alongside global expansion, the group anticipates reaching a revenue milestone of one billion USD by 2030 and securing a position among Asia’s top 10 steel structure companies. This vision not only focuses on scaling up but also aims to establish Dai Dung as a prominent Vietnamese representative in the global steel structure market.

However, Mr. Dung highlighted persistent challenges in Vietnam’s steel structure industry. These include limited production capacity for high-standard energy and oil projects, inadequate automation, carbon management, and surface treatment capabilities. Additionally, few companies hold international certifications, and internationally compliant financial reporting remains uncommon. High logistics costs, reliance on imported raw materials, and a lack of cohesive branding further exacerbate these issues.

According to Mr. Dung, these factors have slowed export growth, confining Vietnam largely to subcontracting roles rather than becoming a strategic supplier for major global projects.

To address these challenges, Dai Dung proposes the development of a National Strategy for the Mechanical Engineering and Steel Structure Industry by 2035. This includes green credit incentives, opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises to undertake EPC roles in key projects, and investments in specialized port infrastructure.

The company also advocates for the establishment of an Industry Advisory Council, international bidding consortia, green logistics initiatives to reduce costs by 15–20%, and investments in R&D, green steel, and digitalization to enhance productivity.

Landmark Projects

Dai Dung is renowned as a leading steel structure contractor, having contributed to numerous high-profile international projects.

In 2017, the company made its mark on the global stage by supplying 6,000 tons of steel for the Lusail Stadium and 28,000 tons for the Ras Abu Aboud (974) Stadium, both venues for the 2022 World Cup. This success earned Dai Dung a spot on FIFA’s list of approved contractors and partnerships with major construction firms, encompassing full-service capabilities from design to installation.

Subsequent projects include the North Field East gas project in Qatar, Phnom Penh International Airport, the Manyar Smelter copper plant in Indonesia, and the Power House Parramatta building in Australia.

Recently, Dai Dung secured a $52 million contract (approximately VND 1.3 trillion) for the Misk Ilmi Museum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, valued at $700 million. The company will deliver 7,000 tons of steel structures, handling both design and construction.

Domestically, Dai Dung has contributed to critical infrastructure projects such as Long Thanh International Airport, Noi Bai T2 Terminal, Tan Son Nhat T3 Terminal, Hoa Phat Steel Complex, Nghi Son 2 Thermal Power Plant, and various large-scale industrial initiatives.

The company recently completed a 24,000-ton steel dome at the National Exhibition Center, a project by Vingroup (VIC). The dome, modeled after a turtle shell (Kim Quy), is constructed from ASTM-standard steel, capable of withstanding Category 12 typhoons and Level 8 earthquakes, with an installation accuracy of just 3mm.

Over 1,000 engineers and workers utilized a 500-ton super crane, more than 100,000 steel joints, and high-strength bolts, all monitored by specialized technology. After 10 months of construction, Dai Dung successfully completed the world’s largest steel dome.
