At 11:30 AM on September 14, 2025, at the Bach Ho Field – Block 09.1, Vietsovpetro Joint Venture successfully installed the topside structure of the BK-24 production platform in the sea.
The project was directly designed, manufactured, and constructed by the Construction, Survey, and Repair Enterprise for Oil and Gas Exploitation Facilities (Vietsovpetro Construction Enterprise), demonstrating their self-reliance in building critical offshore structures for oil and gas production.
Amid declining output from traditional fields, Vietsovpetro has identified exploration, reserve enhancement, and the urgent construction of new facilities as key strategies to ensure oil and gas production targets for 2025 and beyond. Entrusting the Construction Enterprise with the fabrication and installation of the BK-24 platform at Bach Ho Field underscores this commitment.
Previously, the jacket of the BK-24 platform was completed and installed in mid-June 2025. By September 7, the Construction Enterprise finalized inspections, launched the BK-24 topside, and met all design, quality, and safety standards, setting the stage for offshore installation.
Weighing approximately 800 tons, the topside was constructed and installed using the Hoang Sa crane vessel, with over 130 engineers, technicians, and workers operating in three continuous shifts at sea, ensuring strict technical compliance and timely progress.

The BK-24 platform is an unmanned, lightweight structure designed, manufactured, and installed by Vietsovpetro at the Bach Ho Field, approximately 145 km from Vung Tau. Located adjacent to the existing BK-20 platform, it features six wells, auxiliary equipment, a bridge, and connecting pipelines. Several BK-20 components were also modified to process oil and gas from BK-24, ensuring efficient and safe operations.
Following the successful topside installation, the leadership and workforce of the Construction Enterprise will finalize connections and hand over the platform, aiming to commence oil production from BK-24 within 2025, ahead of schedule, significantly contributing to Vietsovpetro’s production goals.

Established under the Intergovernmental Agreement between Vietnam and the former Soviet Union on June 19, 1981, Vietsovpetro operates based on agreements with the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation for oil and gas exploration and production on Vietnam’s continental shelf.
To date, Vietsovpetro has drilled over 850 wells, conducted seismic surveys spanning hundreds of thousands of kilometers in 2D and tens of thousands of square kilometers in 3D, discovered eight new oil and gas fields, constructed more than 70 offshore facilities, and installed over 900 km of subsea pipelines.
The company has produced over 253 million tons of crude oil, collected more than 40.1 billion cubic meters of gas, generated approximately $96 billion in revenue from oil and gas operations and services, and contributed nearly $60 billion to Vietnam’s state budget and profits, significantly supporting economic, social, and defense initiatives.
Technologically, Vietsovpetro successfully exploited fractured basement reservoirs at the Bach Ho Field, a non-conventional oil source of global significance for the petroleum industry.

Notably, while Soviet experts previously held most key positions, over 90% of Vietsovpetro’s technical and management roles are now filled by Vietnamese professionals, who have fully mastered advanced technologies and equipment.
In innovation, the company has implemented over 3,490 technical initiatives, generating hundreds of millions in value. Numerous scientific projects have earned prestigious awards, including the Ho Chi Minh Prize, State Awards, and international accolades.
In oil and gas technical services, from 2005 to 2024, Vietsovpetro expanded its services to external markets, participating in major national projects and achieving nearly $5 billion in revenue.
