Record-Breaking Land Clearance for Gia Binh Airport Project
On September 18th, Tien Phong newspaper reported that Nguyen Van Gau, Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee, announced the successful clearance of over 100 hectares of land for the Gia Binh International Airport project. This marks an unprecedented achievement in land acquisition for projects in Bac Ninh province.
The Bac Ninh Provincial Steering Committee for the implementation of projects related to Gia Binh International Airport launched an 80-day intensive land clearance campaign, a 256-day campaign to complete related projects, and a 468-day campaign to finish the road connecting Gia Binh Airport to Hanoi, passing through Bac Ninh province.
Mr. Gau added that at one point, just four days after compensation payments began, the necessary land clearance was essentially completed.
This is the second time Bac Ninh has set a record in land clearance for the Gia Binh Airport project. Previously, at the November 2024 regular meeting of the Bac Ninh Provincial People’s Committee, Chairman Vuong Quoc Tuan acknowledged and praised the efforts of departments, agencies, and localities for their outstanding political tasks in 2024, particularly the remarkable land clearance for Gia Binh Airport.

Gia Binh International Airport – The Largest Airport in Northern Vietnam and Second Largest Nationally
The Ministry of Construction has approved the adjusted master plan for Gia Binh International Airport, increasing its total area to approximately 1,960 hectares. This officially makes it the largest airport in Northern Vietnam, surpassing Noi Bai Airport (1,500 hectares). Nationally, it ranks second only to Long Thanh Airport (5,000 hectares).

The planning goal for 2021-2030 is to achieve a 4E airport classification (according to ICAO standards). The airport aims to handle approximately 30 million passengers and 1.6 million tons of cargo annually, accommodating aircraft types such as B777, B787, A350, A321, and specialized aircraft.
Gia Binh International Airport will feature CAT III approach and landing standards for runway 07L/25R and CAT II standards for runway 07R/25L.
By 2050, the airport is envisioned to maintain its 4E classification, handling around 50 million passengers and 2.5 million tons of cargo annually. It will continue to serve aircraft types like B777, B787, A350, A321, and specialized aircraft, with CAT III approach and landing standards for runways 07L/25R, 07R/25L, and 06/24.

The airport’s apron system includes a dedicated area for the People’s Public Security Air Force Regiment helicopters and a zone for VIP aircraft and commercial flights. Notably, a VIP terminal for special flights will be located south of the apron area, covering approximately 3.2 hectares.
On December 10, 2024, the Prime Minister attended the groundbreaking ceremony for Gia Binh Airport, which will serve as a training and combat readiness facility for the Vietnam People’s Public Security Air Force. Construction is currently underway alongside the expansion planning to transform it into an international airport.
