The People’s Committee of Cao Bang Province and Sun Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of the Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Area in Dam Thuy Commune.

According to the MoU, Sun Group will collaborate with the province to research, plan, and adjust the zoning, propose special mechanisms and policies, and explore investment opportunities for the Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Area.

The project aims to balance economic development with environmental conservation, national defense, and border sovereignty. It will also align with the province’s tourism development plan, integrating the unique cultural identity of the Tay and Nung ethnic groups.

The investment scope is expected to include various forms of resorts, entertainment, commercial activities, and community-based tourism.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Quan Minh Cuong emphasized that if successfully implemented, this project will be a “golden opportunity” for Cao Bang to transform its potential into a driving force for development. He also expressed hope that Sun Group will make substantial and effective investments, implementing the project in suitable phases.

During the meeting, Tran Minh Son, Vice Chairman of Sun Group’s Board of Directors, shared that the company has extensive experience from major projects in Da Nang, Phu Quoc, and Quang Ninh. He expressed confidence in Cao Bang’s unique potential, given its internationally significant landscapes, history, and culture.

Sun Group aims to collaborate with local authorities to effectively harness this potential, contributing to the transformation of the province’s socio-economic landscape. The group is committed to enhancing the beauty of this border region with world-class, sustainable tourism projects that bear its distinctive mark.

Previously, on July 23, Chairman of the Cao Bang Provincial People’s Committee Le Hai Hoa met with Sun Group in Hanoi to promote investment in key tourism areas, including the Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Area.

During this meeting, provincial leaders highlighted the development potential of the Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Area, which spans 1,000 hectares within the core zone of the UNESCO Global Geopark Non Nuoc Cao Bang and the Cao Bang Border Gate Economic Zone.

Given its unique border location adjacent to China’s Duc Thien Tourism Area, Ban Gioc Waterfall is Vietnam’s only destination implementing a cross-border visa-free tourism model, attracting international visitors.

However, the tourism infrastructure remains incomplete, and the offerings lack diversity, failing to attract high-end tourists.

To address these issues, the province has received VND 220 billion from the central government to support infrastructure and landscape development in the Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Area. Additionally, the province is actively adjusting detailed plans to align with the local terrain and ensure connectivity and development in accordance with the cooperation agreement with China.
