Excluding drivetrain distinctions, Vietnam’s B-segment SUV market (including B+) currently boasts around 20 models. Notable entries include the VinFast VF 6, Toyota Yaris Cross, Corolla Cross, Mitsubishi Xforce, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Mazda CX-3, CX-30, and Honda HR-V.

This segment stands as one of the most fiercely competitive in Vietnam’s automotive market, evidenced by the frequent shifts in sales leadership over recent years.

Following Toyota Corolla Cross’s dominance in 2021-2022, Hyundai Creta claimed the top spot in 2023. In 2024, the Mitsubishi Xforce emerged as a surprise leader, despite its late entry in March.

As 2025 unfolds, the landscape shifts dramatically with the rise of electric vehicles, led by the VinFast VF 6.

VinFast VF 6 averages over 1,500 monthly sales since 2025’s inception.

In the first eight months of 2025, the Vietnamese electric vehicle delivered 12,492 units domestically. Japanese contenders—Toyota Yaris Cross, Mitsubishi Xforce, and Corolla Cross—trail with 7,691, 6,660, and 5,177 units, respectively.

The VinFast VF 6 holds a nearly 4,801-unit lead over its closest rival, the Yaris Cross. With only four months remaining in 2025, this gap appears insurmountable without a significant breakthrough from competitors.

Barring unexpected developments, the VinFast VF 6 is poised to secure the B-segment SUV crown for 2025. The battle for second place will likely intensify between the Toyota Yaris Cross and Mitsubishi Xforce.

Over the past three months, both models have maintained a close race, averaging around 1,000 monthly sales each. However, Xforce’s slower start allowed Yaris Cross to establish a 1,000-unit cumulative lead.

Toyota Yaris Cross gained early momentum in 2025 through substantial registration fee subsidies of 50-100% across all variants. This strategy provided a stronger sales foundation compared to Xforce, which introduced similar incentives only in Q2.

Mitsubishi Xforce’s decline underscores the intense competition within the B-segment SUV market, where even former leaders can quickly lose ground.

While Japanese models vie for top positions, Korean competitors like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos lag behind. Creta and Seltos recorded 4,177 and 3,516 sales, respectively, in the first eight months—significantly trailing the Yaris Cross and Xforce.

Creta’s sales inched up 2% year-over-year, boosted by its June facelift. August sales reached 600 units, a 45% monthly increase. Seltos, however, saw an 8-month sales dip of 2% compared to 2024, though its 3,500+ units still account for 22% of Kia Vietnam’s total sales.

Beyond established Japanese and Korean brands, the B-segment SUV market welcomes new entrants from China and Europe, including the Lynk & Co 06, BYD Atto 2, Omoda C5, Haval Jolion, Geely Coolray, and Skoda Kushaq.

The continuous influx of new models into this fiercely competitive segment highlights manufacturers’ optimism about the urban crossover SUV market’s potential in Vietnam.
