At AWS Cloud Day Vietnam 2025, held in Hanoi on September 18, AWS unveiled the groundbreaking study, “Unlocking Vietnam’s AI Potential,” a collaborative effort with Strand Partners.
The research reveals that while 74% of Vietnamese businesses utilize AI primarily for workflow optimization, only 35% of startups and 11% of large enterprises are leveraging AI to develop entirely new, AI-driven products. This highlights a significant opportunity for Vietnam to accelerate its AI adoption by fostering collaboration between the agility of startups and the resources of established enterprises.
Addressing the event, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper emphasized the role of American companies like AWS in driving Vietnam’s digital transformation. He highlighted how cloud technology not only boosts business efficiency but also fuels societal progress through advancements in AI, manufacturing, e-commerce, and financial services. Ambassador Knapper stressed the importance of secure and reliable digital infrastructure, positioning Vietnam as a future leader in the global digital economy.
The Ambassador further underscored the critical role of human capital in Vietnam’s digital journey, stating, “Technology is only as powerful as the people who wield it.” He commended AWS for its neutral stance in Vietnam’s digital transformation, providing essential infrastructure and solutions that empower businesses of all sizes, government institutions, and innovators. Vietnamese developers, startups, and e-commerce companies are already leveraging AWS cloud services to scale and innovate rapidly, unburdened by heavy upfront capital costs.
AWS’s commitment extends beyond infrastructure. The company is actively investing in workforce development programs to strengthen Vietnam’s digital skills in cloud computing and AI. “We stand firmly behind AWS and other American companies in their efforts to support Vietnam’s digital transformation,” Ambassador Knapper affirmed. “We are dedicated to collaborating with companies like AWS to enhance cybersecurity and ensure the safety and security of Vietnam’s digital networks and cloud infrastructure.”

Marking the 30th anniversary of U.S.-Vietnam diplomatic relations in July, Ambassador Knapper reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to Vietnam’s long-term growth and transformation. He highlighted the pivotal role of American companies like AWS in providing the necessary resources and expertise for Vietnam’s economic evolution. “The U.S. and its leading companies are here to support Vietnam’s aspirations,” he stated. “We stand alongside Vietnam as it strives to become a leading entrepreneurial and digital economy on the global stage.”

From a business perspective, Mr. Eric Yeo, Country General Manager of AWS Vietnam, expressed confidence in Vietnam’s potential to lead in AI. He urged policymakers and industry leaders to take decisive action by enhancing digital skills training, establishing clear regulations, adopting pro-growth policies, and modernizing public sector technology. “AI represents the most significant opportunity since cloud computing, and possibly since the internet itself,” Yeo stated. “We are eager to collaborate with governments, businesses, and startups to unlock Vietnam’s full AI potential.”
