Recently, the National Competition Commission (Ministry of Industry and Trade) released information regarding certain Apple Vietnam products in response to consumer feedback. The commission has received reports from consumers about a discoloration issue occurring between the iPad Pro 11-inch (M4) WiFi and Apple Pencil Pro when the two devices come into contact during use.

Specifically, at the magnetic charging point between the two devices, an unusual discoloration appears, resembling a slight charring mark. This could potentially indicate safety concerns, such as fire hazards or technical malfunctions.

Based on consumer feedback, the National Competition Commission has requested Apple Vietnam Co., Ltd. to provide relevant information and documentation. According to the company’s report, Apple Vietnam has acknowledged the issue. After reviewing the images, information, and materials provided by consumers, the company determined that the discoloration is a cosmetic issue, likely caused by external factors such as dust, moisture, or debris present between the devices during charging. This does not affect the device’s performance or functionality and is not a safety concern. Currently, the company has not identified any systemic safety issues with the iPad Pro 11-inch (M4) WiFi and Apple Pencil Pro.

The company’s report confirms that these products have been tested and certified to meet international safety standards for information technology equipment (ITE), including IEC 60950 and IEC 62368.

In Vietnam, the iPad Pro 11-inch (M4) WiFi has been certified to comply with the National Technical Regulation on Safety of Telecommunication and Information Technology Equipment – QCVN 132:2022/BTTTT. However, according to the company’s report, the Apple Pencil Pro is not covered by this regulation.

Under the company’s published warranty policy, the discoloration issue is not covered for cosmetic or external damage. However, the company offers a limited one-year warranty for iPad and Apple Pencil products in Vietnam.

The company’s report concludes that the cosmetic issue does not pose a safety risk to consumers or their property, health, or life. Therefore, there is no obligation to recall the product under consumer protection laws.

Based on the information provided by the company and current regulations, the National Competition Commission advises consumers to inspect their products upon purchase and during use, especially if unusual surface marks appear. Retain documentation and images of the product’s condition for potential reporting to the company or authorities. Contact Apple’s Support Team through official channels for guidance on specific device issues.

If consumers encounter safety risks that could harm their health, life, or property, promptly notify the local Department of Industry and Trade for verification and potential product recall as per legal requirements.
