According to the plan, the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Defense will inaugurate the new Phong Châu Bridge on September 27th.
Previously, on September 9, 2024, Typhoon Yagi swept away pier T7 and two steel spans, causing a section of the Phong Châu Bridge—a vital artery on National Highway 32C—to collapse. Approximately 10 vehicles and numerous commuters were swept into the swirling waters, resulting in 8 missing persons and 3 injuries. This incident stands as one of the most severe traffic accidents ever recorded on National Highway 32C.
Subsequently, under the Emergency Construction Order, the project to build the new Phong Châu Bridge on National Highway 32C in Phú Thọ Province was initiated with a total investment exceeding 635 billion VND.
The project is managed by the Thăng Long Project Management Board (under the Ministry of Construction), with construction executed by Corps 12—Trường Sơn Construction Corporation.
The new bridge spans nearly 653 meters, with a width of 20.5 meters, featuring a permanent structure of reinforced concrete and prestressed reinforced concrete.
Throughout the construction process, military forces, particularly Brigade 249 (Engineering Corps) and Corps 12, alongside engineers and workers, worked tirelessly, “defying sun and rain,” to reconnect National Highway 32C—a critical transportation lifeline in the Northwest region severed by the bridge collapse.
After over 10 months of construction and closure on August 27th, the Phong Châu Bridge is entering its final completion phase, preparing for official opening and operation.
Regarding the project’s progress, on September 10th, during a meeting of the National Steering Committee for Key Transport Projects, the Prime Minister emphasized that assigning the Phong Châu Bridge project to the military reduced the construction timeline from 1 year to 10 months and saved 300 billion VND. Early operation of the bridge will enhance capital efficiency and benefit both the state and the public.
Earlier, during an inspection on August 9th, the Prime Minister highlighted valuable lessons from the project: following the bridge collapse, the government declared an emergency and permitted special contractor selection mechanisms, shortening construction by approximately 3 months and significantly reducing costs compared to initial estimates.
The Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Defense to commend Trường Sơn Construction Corporation and agreed to allocate the saved funds for expanding and enhancing the connecting road system to ensure seamless integration with the main bridge.
The $26-Million Phu Tho Bridge: A Construction Record-Breaker
The new Phong Chau Bridge, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Defense, and Phu Tho Province, held its roof-sealing ceremony on August 27. This significant milestone marks the completion of the main structure of the bridge, which spans the Red River on National Highway 32C.
Oyster Capital Van Don in Distress: Cheap Chinese Imports Flood the Market
The influx of cheap, unverified oysters into Quang Ninh province has had a direct impact on local farmers and the reputation of regional produce. In response, the Van Don Special Zone in Quang Ninh has mobilized forces to conduct comprehensive inspections and controls along the entire supply chain, from ports to restaurants. The aim is to decisively halt the infiltration of Chinese “yellow oysters” masquerading as the renowned Van Don oysters.

With a target completion date set for September 2, the chairman aims to have the bridge functional and open to the public by early October. This ambitious timeline underscores the province’s commitment to enhancing connectivity and infrastructure development.”
