On September 19th, the iPhone 17 trio and iPhone Air officially hit the shelves in Vietnam. According to retailers, the demand for the standard iPhone 17 has surged compared to last year’s iPhone 16, though it still lags behind the premium 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max models.
In Vietnam, it’s become a familiar trend: whenever Apple launches a new iPhone, most users prioritize the highest-end Pro versions to fully experience the latest technologies and features.
Many stores confirmed that the iPhone 17 Pro Max sold out even before the official launch, with supply struggling to meet demand. This has driven up prices in the secondary market.
Despite this, the standard iPhone 17 is also seeing strong sales. Notably, just days after launch, some authorized Apple retailers reduced the price of the 512GB iPhone 17 to 31.19 million VND, 300,000 VND below the original price. Meanwhile, the 256GB version remains at its initial price point.
Statistics from several domestic retailers show a significant increase in interest for the standard iPhone this year. Two days after launch, a retail system representative reported a 25% higher registration rate for the iPhone 17 compared to its predecessor, with some models already out of stock.

Similarly, Di Động Việt confirmed that the standard iPhone 17 is outperforming expectations, ranking behind the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max but ahead of the iPhone Air, contrary to earlier predictions about the ultra-thin model’s appeal. Approximately 8% of customers opted for the iPhone 17, with 80% choosing the 256GB variant, predominantly in purple.
According to a store representative, most iPhone 17 buyers are upgrading from iPhone 11, 12, or 13 models: “They want a powerful device with the A19 chip, a larger screen, and a fresh design, all at a more accessible price than the Pro line. The iPhone 17 has clearly carved out its own distinct customer base,” they noted.
This demand isn’t limited to Vietnam; it’s booming globally. The Information revealed that Apple has requested factories increase iPhone 17 production by at least 30% following higher-than-expected pre-order numbers. Reuters also reported that Luxshare Precision and Foxconn, key assembly partners, have been asked to boost daily iPhone 17 output by 40%.
This shift indicates that the iPhone 17 is emerging from the Pro line’s shadow, establishing its own customer segment and poised to capture a larger market share, especially as supply stabilizes and new color options continue to attract younger users.

The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max remain the most popular choices among Vietnamese users.
2025 marks the first year Apple has launched the iPhone early in Vietnam, significantly boosting domestic purchasing power.
In the first three days of sales, Vietnam recorded massive spending, totaling trillions of VND for the new iPhones. Thế Giới Di Động reported over 100,000 deposits, while Viettel Store announced more than 70,000 orders on its website. Smaller systems like Minh Tuấn Mobile and Di Động Việt recorded around 20,000 purchases. These figures exclude major retailers such as FPT Shop, CellphoneS, Hoàng Hà Mobile, and ShopDunk, which have yet to disclose details.
