Ho Chi Minh City to Invest in 10 Railway Lines by 2035
Ho Chi Minh City is currently researching and proposing adjustments to several urban railway projects under Resolution No. 188 of the National Assembly. These adjustments aim to meet the demands and practical development needs following the city’s consolidation. The city plans to add projects to prioritize investment in three metro lines connecting to Binh Duong and Ba Ria – Vung Tau (formerly proposed).
These include: Line No. 1 (Binh Duong New City – Suoi Tien, Ho Chi Minh City); Line No. 2 (Thu Dau Mot City – Ho Chi Minh City); and the Thu Thiem – Long Thanh railway. According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, the initial application of special mechanisms and policies under Resolution No. 188 has proven effective. Project implementation has accelerated, significantly reducing time and streamlining procedures compared to previous methods.
With these mechanisms in place, Ho Chi Minh City will focus resources on commencing construction of Metro Line No. 2 (Ben Thanh – Tham Luong) by the end of this year. The city also plans to start construction on the remaining nine lines between 2027 and 2028, with completion targeted for 2035.
