Ca Mau Airport to Close for One Year for Expansion and Upgrade Works
The expansion and upgrade project, with an investment of approximately VND 2.4 trillion, is being undertaken by the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV). On August 19, ACV held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project, aiming to accommodate modern aircraft such as the A320 and A321.
The project includes the construction of a new runway measuring 2,400m x 45m, capable of handling Airbus A320, A321, and similar aircraft;
The development of taxiways connecting the runway to the apron and five holding taxiways; and the construction of an apron to accommodate three parking stands for Airbus A320, A321, and equivalent aircraft.
The existing passenger terminal will be renovated and expanded to handle 500,000 passengers annually, with the potential to accommodate up to 1 million passengers per year if demand arises.
The project is scheduled for completion within 18 months from the land allocation by the government.
This expansion aims to meet the growing demand for passenger and cargo transportation, while also fostering economic, social, and tourism development, as well as attracting investment to the Mekong Delta region.
Currently, Ca Mau Airport features a two-story passenger terminal with a design capacity of 200,000 passengers per year, serving 150 passengers during peak hours; a 1,500m long and 30m wide runway capable of handling ATR 72 and similar aircraft, as well as Embraer E190 with reduced load.
