Beware of Fake Facebook Pages Impersonating the Ministry of Finance for Scams

The Facebook page titled “Ministry of Finance – Document Submission Portal” exploits the Ministry’s imagery and information, falsely claiming to represent the Ministry in “recovering funds” for victims of online scams.

The Ministry of Finance has issued a warning regarding a fraudulent Facebook page impersonating the official Ministry of Finance account. Specifically, the Ministry received reports about a Facebook page named “Ministry of Finance – Official Submission Portal,” which uses the Ministry’s images and information and has been verified by Facebook (with a blue checkmark).

This page falsely claims to represent the Ministry of Finance and offers to help “recover funds” for victims of online scams. It instructs individuals to send personal information, transaction receipts, and pay a “processing fee” or “service charge” to receive their lost funds.

The Ministry of Finance confirms that the Facebook page “Ministry of Finance – Official Submission Portal” (or similar pages) is fraudulent and not affiliated with the Ministry. The Ministry urges citizens and businesses to remain vigilant and disregard any instructions or posts from this page to avoid falling victim to scams. Additionally, any suspicious activity should be reported to the relevant authorities to prevent potential losses.

Citizens and businesses are advised to be cautious of entities impersonating the Ministry of Finance or its leadership for personal gain.

Exercise caution when making financial transactions with unfamiliar websites, fake fan pages, or unknown individuals online.

The Ministry of Finance is currently collaborating with relevant authorities to investigate and address these fraudulent activities involving fake websites and fan pages.
